The There Are No Stupid Questions Thread

Threads above that line have had posts since you last looked. Threads below that line have had no new activity since your last visit. Pretty handy feature, IMO.

What constitutes my last visit then? Shouldn’t refreshing the page, or just revisiting a minute or so later make that line disappear or go closer to the top?
I don’t get it.

This new BLF has me quite confused.

1 Thank

It probably should but it usually takes a bit of time on the forum for it to register. For me it varies:

  • sometimes it updates after reading some replies to a single thread I follow
  • sometimes it doesn’t update after spending like 15-20 minutes online

Can anyone explain a bit about what checking or not checking this box affects?

1 Thank

You don’t have to change your settings !

The (last visit) on the front page is working just fine, and it helps you to keep tracking on the latest topics when the system is doing update for the the front page in correlation with your last visit on the forum !

If you have new unwatched topics, the are with white color !

If they are new, but you have watch them, they are with gray color !

Thanks, but my second question is actually unrelated to the first.
I just want to know specifically what that option is going to affect.

Ah, ok !

Probably it is for the topics that have been closed from the Admin, so nobody can reply on them !?

If I power a Sofirn BLF lantern using a USB cable in a 2 amp wall adapter, I can reach level 3. Now when I power it using a 3 amp adapter I can reach level 4. Will I cook the driver if I use a 6 Amp (30W) power adapter to try reaching level 5 or 6 ?

Check out the charging specs on their website… !

Can a tactical switch be used on TD01 like the SF26?

Putting small nails (like for pictures, etc.) into drywall… drill a pilot hole, or not?

Not drilling would probably be more “squish” holding the nail into place, but risk chipping/cracking/etc. the drywall from being forced through.

Drilling a pilot hole would probably reduce the shock of having a nail slammed through the drywall, but maybe not put enough grip on the nail. Think about the extreme where the pilot hole is just about the diameter of the nail itself and could almost be pushed in with a thumb.

Yeah, probably overthinking everything, but just want stuff to hold without risking damage to the drywall.

Application is one of those teevee hangers where you use like 20 nails along the rail to distribute the weight of the teevee, and don’t have to find and drill into studs. Max is 10lbs/nail, but the teevee’s 20lbs if that, so we’re talking like ~1lb/nail.

Nails are angled slightly downward so it’s not like the nails could be pulled out of the wall by its weight.

I have always drilled first but it probably isn’t necessary. Drywall is never drilled when installing and it survives.

I think it’s all about the speed and force when you hit the nail. Like a magician pulling a table cloth from under glasses. Too fast and you ruin things, too slow and you take the glasses with you.

Is the voltage check in Anduril useful for knowing when a NiMH battery needs to be charged?

Do pills always have a reverse thread?

Not that I know of. Of all the lights I own, only the Convoy S2(+) type of tube lights do have threads.
Maybe you are confusing pills with retaining rings (for the driver and/or the tailswitch). Those may have righthanded and lefthanded threads. It’s a matter of trial and error.

I was struggling with lumintop edc01, trying to unscrew the pill with a driver and mcpcb in a usual way. Had broken my tweezers, bought round nose pliers, bent them a bit. Then decided to turn in opposite direction … what a surprise.
Patient didn’t survive (luckily I had another one).
So want to know for future mods to what I should get prepared.

Thanks.

I’m not certain, but aren’t most, if not all C8 pills threaded?

I’ve seen retaining rings be reverse-threaded, but not really any pills.

Imagine some mfr will do it because Reasons…
