Thorfire TG06 AA or 14500

It would be worth a try to find out if “Shenzhen Epath Electronics Co., Ltd” would sell their drivers separately. I assume this is the company behind Thorfire/Eachine/SecurityIng and maybe more brands.
At least the Thorfire models TG05/TG06 are very similar to the SecurityIng models SG6/SG7 sold here:

One of the differences, the driver of the TG05 was AA only, the driver in the matching SG6 is specified with 1.0~4.2v and could be the same in the SG7.

Another option with 17mm I’ve found at Randar (somebody here at BLF said that their “14500” Model RA-800 with electronic side switch will get AA capability soon) is this driver:

Perhaps they are willing to sell the new RA-800 driver too, if ready…
$5 per piece isn’t that much of a bargin though, if one consider that the complete SecurityIng SG7 is sold for about $11 at the moment.
But - that may be the fate of the modder - parts bought separately will be more expensive in many cases…

I just tried a TF flame 14500 in my TG06 (from Amazon) and WOW what a differce !
It has since disappeared in my wife’s purse

You were definitely right in your assessment of this. My light quit. I believe my driver twisted, or I tightened the retaining ring to tight, and ripped the insulation on the led - wire. Replaced the wire, but still no light. I tested with a AAA battery pack, and the LED lights from BAT + (spring pad)) to LED - on the driver, I accidentally touched ground to the current resister and I got both light and modes. So the driver appears to be working. I am not getting current to the BAT - ring. The only component that has continuity to the - ring is the single pin side of Q2, and has AOGC written on it. Not sure what that is. Anyone have any ideas? Beautiful picture of driver by Mattlward in post 114 Tried to copy that to this post, but I can’t
Thanks

I have upgraded the LED’s in all of mine, but have not touched the drivers. I really like the driver that this light uses, especially the V2 version. Very good output on both AA and 14400, I do wish it had memory. I doubt that I will go strictly 3.7v on any of them. I have used the V1 driver in a couple of old stainless UltraFire lights and it really works well in them.

Can’t help with troubleshooting on them, I have not broken any of my drivers yet!

>-)

I got it working again. AO6B (Q2) in your picture appears to be the culprit. It provides ground to the outer ring. It started working for a bit while I was chasing around with my DMM, I was getting continuity from the upper right pin to the ground pin, and then it quit again. I soldered a bridge from R1 to the ground ring and it seems to work fine. Current measurements all appear to be the same.
If someone would explain the purpose of Q2, i would consider sourcing a replacement, otherwise I’ll just let it ride.

EDIT: Errr, Q2 not Q1

Is there still any active code for the TG06 new version? Thanks

I have a TG 06 ready to mod (I think it’s already dead). It worked just a few seconds with 14500 and then…nothing.
Now no works with AA/14500 anymore :-((
So I imagine the led blow up. Can you suggest please the easy way to mod it? Maybe must find a star with already the led, and then try to soldering the wire?
I woul like to order from Fasttech…any suggestions? Thank you

edit:
Found this, but it’s 16mm
XP-G2 R5

If you have a way to test the LED, I would do that first. I just use something like this Battery holder that I have around. If it worked, and then didn’t work like mine, it is likely a different issue.

This one is a S2 2B that will be brighter for a buck more.

THESE are a Warm White version, your TG06 will look like it has an incandescent bulb in it with one of these in it!

XPL HI 5C

XPL HI 3B

One of my favorite “halogen” tints ( a nice straw yellow color ) is THIS XPL 5D

Some of these are always
handy as well… Or these

ReManG you blow my mind!
Thank you for the suggestions, lot of precious information!

Nice find, but it can work with AA or just 14500?
It work with the stock driver? (if is not damaged >:-/ )

The stock driver will work with AA and 14500, so whatever 3V LED you swap it out with, the driver will drive. All the ones listed will work with that driver… So take your pick.

Now in my opinion, with the stock driver you will see some more brightness with the S2 2B. XPG2, but it will not be a huge level. I would pick the XPL for the most brightness, but the XPG2 for the value…. The 2B tint is my favorite CW tint by the way…

Thank you very much again, sir. Just a few thing and I’m ready to pull the trigger

BTW, this is the driver on my torch:

Can it handle a 14500 battery? Because with a protected 14500 Keeppower something does wrong… :frowning:
instead no problem with AA (before putting the 14500 Li-on…)

That looks like the newer driver out of the TG06, but all of the TG06 models are good with AA and 14500.

On the TG 05 the driver was rated AA only ….

Word of caution with the regular XPL (not the HI), be careful to not push on the dome, they dedome very easily. I just dedomed one putting it in a light with a slip of the finger while centering the LED. I got lucky and ut still works, but a dedomed 7A3 tint is very warm… I actually like it, so it will stay.

That is not the normal driver… none of the TG06 drivers I have are red. I have V1 and V2 drivers, both are blue! Not sure about that one, do we have a V3?

This is the same driver as mine. The layout seems to be the same as the one Mattlward posted, and I used it to help find my issue. I think you might find the same problem I had with mine.
This mosfet? provides ground to the driver ring on the left single pin. If you have a way to check with power, test from Batt + to the upper right pin of that component, and your light will likely work. Maybe someone else can explain the logic of that component (I can’t), but I used the Ghetto method, and provided my own ground. The light works, has all modes, and I see no difference in output.

Sorry Dust, I do not saw your reply.
No, I have not a battery holder, so I don’t know how to try if the led work :frowning:

I have 3 TG06 and the driver is red, not blue.

Late to the party. any new active codes for this light? I used some old codes for banggood and amazon but no good! thanks

you got PM
