Today is my late father's birthday

I know we didn't get along that well after mom passed, but I just wanted to say I miss you. Happy 98th birthday dad!!!!

You know, some things or people in life are like freedom. We take it for granted, we don’t know how important they are, until we lose them.

I hear ya. I'm going to visit my parent's grave today. I haven't done that in years. It's time...

I have my own share of life’s ironies…it’s never too late though.

Hey Glenn, how about sharing a story about your dad with us.

The nice thing about memories is we tend to forget the bad ones and hold on to the good ones. Our loved ones that have departed live in our hearts and memories. It's nice to know that as time passes we see them in a better light and appreciate them even more. Bitterness falls to the side and only love remains in our hearts making both them and us better people. God bless you, Glenn! Happy birthday to your dad!

I hear you my friend, and thanks!!

A story? Damn, I'm not very good at telling stories except I have to say my dad was the greatest when I was growing up. He always stuck up for me even when I was wrong. I was generally a good kid, but I did get into minor trouble here and there. He was always there for me, and always told me how much he loved me. Unfortunately things sort of went south after my mother died in 1997. I wont go into to that if you don't mind

He owned Buy Rite Hardware in Farmingdale Long Island, NY since 1955. Sold it in 1983 due to illness. BTW, the store is still there. It's called Kings Hardware now. He taught me everything I know about hardware, electrical, and plumbing.

There you have it. Like I said, I'm not much of a story teller.

RIP Dad 1915 - 2001

this one’s for you Glenn…(couldn’t get the video link to work) :

Thanks Orion. The video really hit me hard. I had so much anger towards my dad the past 12 years. It's time to forgive and forget the crap that happened the last few years of his life and cherish many great years we had together.

Now that is a MAN thinking. Your Dad raised a good son.

I read this last night... later I was thinking about my Dad. He has been gone since 1995 and I still miss him. His birthday is in 10 days. He would be turning 90. I couldn't help but think... I was never hungry, always had clothes to wear, a roof over my head, and anything that I wanted that he could find a way to afford. Dad was a carpenter. We weren't wealthy...far from it. But I had a new bike for a birthday, a new 22 rifle (that I still have) when I turned 13. But most of all, I had Dad.

None of us will ever have another one.... we each get just one original. Love the memories....good & bad.... like I said, he raised a good son. Dan

My feelings are with you Glenn. My dad left this earth in 2001 as well...

your dad is correct're a good kid

we appreciate you for being .....a great budget light forum friend

Sounds like your father couldn’t cope with your mothers death and took it out on you. But its great that you’re letting go. Good for you bro.

wow glen if your late father 98th year how old are you?
my late great grandfather passed away when he at his 98th.

I’m sure your Dad still loves you despite what happened. There are emotional issues happen sometimes in the family, but blood is thicker than water.

I'm 61, although I act and feel much younger. BTW, my mom was 12 years younger than my dad. She passed in 1997 at the age of 70.

It’s nice to have threads like this.

It brings out the human side in us, the side that usually is not much thought of oftentimes.
