toning it down

I’m getting my ‘flashlight fixes’ the cheap way these days  After wondering why on earth I paid $150 for a custom light, and then another $50 for an Armytek Tiara headlamp, I switched gears. My last (3) purchases were

1. $15 for a B grade XinTD C8 V5 (off centered emitter)

2. $3.64 for (2) USB mini night lights, touch sensitive, with ramping : http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Brand-MINI-Touch-Switch-USB-mobile-power-camping-lamp-LED-night-light-lamp-D-/121310231074?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:3160

3. $1.99 USB flex cable light, 15” from IKEA on sale down from $4.99 (pictured below)

soliciting for CHEAP flashlight things to keep me on this path, thank you.

patrick

What B-grade flash light was that? This? XINTD C8 V5 XP-G2 S2 & XM-L2 U2

sorry, they sold out rather quickly as you might have guessed. This was the link that I read that led me to purchase.

XinTD C8 V5. Not quite feeling it... (post #13)

You did make me realize that it might also be worth to check banggood etc. Although I’ll probably just end up looking for something with proven quality (just looking for 1 light, not to feed an addiction ;))

not toning it down “going budget”

The USB light looks neat.
According to ikea it’s 2700K LED and only 10.5 lumen output.
Does that seem about right with your light?

“toning it down” can be good. You will get to appreciate the premium products better.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!

$5 maximum purchase from this point forward - ‘accepting accountability partners’.

The good thing is you still get your "online buying" fix, and your "waiting for something to turn up in the post" hit.

haha….I know that feeling all to well…and the occasional “oh…I ordered something!” package in the mail you completely forgot about and it shows up

Little gems like these are always welcome IMO.

Not sure which thread I saw them in initially but my touch-sensitve ramping USB lights from your ebay link arrived a couple of days ago. If it was your thread I saw them in, then many thanks are in order.

I opted for the warm version, which have an almost pinkish tint. So much nicer than most of the cold, blue crap usually sold at this price point. I have since seen that Fasttech have a similar product (http://www.fasttech.com/products/2111/10006956/1741602) slightly cheaper but at under $2 each I'm happy with the ebay seller.

Not sure about long-term performance but so far I've found they work very well. I placed another order today for an additional 10 as giveaways for family and friends.

I have been fiddle futzing around with them…seeing how long I can run them

On my ML-102 w/ a Sanyo 2600mAh, I got a solid 5.25hrs on high, great little “emergency” candles when the power goes out (they do get rather warm though)

I "measured" a draw of about 230mA on high using my USB charger doctor. Not sure how accurate this gadget is but I did notice that current draw dropped rapidly if I ramped them down slightly. I dare say you could easily stretch this to 10 hours or more with only a small drop in percieved brightness.

I've not yet felt that mine were "hot" on high. Certainly no risk to anyone of burning fingers on the exposed components. But then, who knows how consitent these might be from batch to batch.

I will test mine out tonight too…I think that 200~mA is probably pretty close

Yeah, screw expensive headlamps, I’ll just use this instead (untill I win the lottery ;))!

Can we exchange credit card bills.

ohh yeah, I forgot I have those USB LED too, they are damn bright for their size do you brought them, xelario ? I got 1 only as present

I have one of these that runs off a wall wort and has a nice lil rocker switch on the cord .

I put a wand type diffuser on it since it fit nicely and then wound it up and into the shade of my lamp . The tint is very nice(2700) sounds right but my guess is it's doing more than 10 lumens .....mine does about 80 lumens ...when comparing it to a thrunite ti

At 2$ I would have bought 5 of them .

we have some very funny guys in this Forum!

I’m rather enjoying all these inexpensive lil offerings. They provide all the light I need at my desk, and have wonderful tints. If anyone sees some other unique, cheap offerings, send em my way. I don’t need 5000 lumens. Thanks.

Name-brand SMD LEDs are nice too, and if they are only high flux or high brightness, they can be had for fairly cheap too, in case you have a soldering itch from time to time.

Those USB touch lights are interesting, you should try to combine the guts of that with the ikea light.
