To answer that, it’s best if you can describe what types of modding you hope to accomplish.

Also, because the types of tools for modding flashlights range from basic hand & power tools to a multitude of specialty types, especially for electronics, including soldering, I think that Amazon.com and AliExpress are many “illumination modders” goto sources for their needs, with specialty suppliers including MountainElectronics.com, Mouser.com and DigiKey.com among the options for items like LEDs, Optics, Microelectronic Components, etc.

Also, based on your question, this would be a good time to resurrect the following BLF Thread, Modding Tools, Techniques, Tips & Questions - Feel free to post them here! - #3 by CRX, which should have garnered more attraction and input from experienced modders when it was first posted.

Light building tips

It’s O-L contest season so I thought this might help some members who have entered or considering entering the O-L contest. I’ve made a couple of lights on my lathe now and my tip is it’s best to have all the components on hand before you start slicing and dicing. Modding Newbie - Tools Needed

I want to jump on the mod wagon. I love tools and DIY but I’ve never done much with electronics. Help me out with a $100 kit Santa can afford that’ll put me in the game. I’ve looked at the Weller, Hakku variable stations that seem like maybe overkill. Would I be relatively happy with like one of the Weller Pro fixed wattage models and wish the rest on tips, solders, wick, and ??? Is this even possible for $100 ? Other avenues? Recommended tools for DIYing

Hello, I’m quite new to this but am slowly starting to gain an understandning. What tools would you recommend me to get. I’m gonna try building a flashlight from a Convoy S2 host from fasttech. I need some tool to screw/unscrew the pill, a multimeter, a soldering iron, and some solder. Anything else? Anything in particular I should look out for/avoid?

Inexpensive modding kit?

I pulled the above from a current thread, did some searching and ‘still’ (somehow) came up with the following question: Has anybody ever put together a detailed list of what one would need to get in to modding? Obviously I’m $50 in right from the start. I have no ‘little’ anything tools save perhaps a cheap Harbor Freight dental pic style kit. So what grease does everyone prefer for thread lube? What about adhesives, what uv glue are the experienced folks suggesting? Third of all, any tools or supplies I should get (other than the obvious ones like soldering iron, magnifying lens, headache meds, etc…lol) before starting on my light modding journey?
