Torx screwdrivers for SRM knives? Yeah, right!

I bought a SanRenMu folding knife, the B4-735.

This knife is a flipper. Problem is that it doesn't flip hardly at all, maybe because one of the Torx screws is too tight.

According to exduct, SanRenMu uses T6 & T10 Torx screws.

But exduct wants $6.04 (including shipping) for a 2 piece Torx screwdriver set.


I figured I could save money by purchasing T6 & T10 screwdrivers on eBay.

The screwdriver bits don't work on my knife; $2.48 wasted.

Again, the Torx bits don't work on my SanRenMu.

Another $3.58 wasted. (I don't do returns when I buy the wrong cheap items from Hong Kong)


I did some research. There are several different Torx variants:

I don't know what to do. Exduct seems expensive for what you get. I've read that there are Torx screwdrivers at Lowe's/Home Depot (in the U.S.) that are good for knives, but I don't know if they work for SanRenMu knives.


Q1) What type of Torx T6 & T10 screws are used in SanRenMu knives?

Q2) Where is a good place to buy a Torx screwdriver set for SRM knives?

When I need a specific one I'd only get them from a place I can try them to make sure they work before I buy.

I have the Screwdriver from exduct and it works but i have some knives with hex screws so try this first .

Maybe I could buy from a local home improvement store and return the item if it doesn't work with my knife? It would be a lot faster than buying from Hong Kong again. Keep up the good advice!

Thank God exduct knows what they're talking about. It's a shame their shipping is quite high.

SRM 908 hex( on Pivot 2 mm - on Handle 1.5 mm) , SRM 605 hex ( P 2 - H 1.5), SRM 909 hex (H 1.5), SRM 905 hex (H 1.5) , EL01+EL02 (H torx T6 )

Torx T6 and T10 are standard sizes so if you have bits marked T6 and T10 they should work fine.

What exactly do you mean by 'they don't work'?

i had/have a similar prob with my 710 - the screws on the clip just won't unscrew. the main screw, where the blade pivots, however does unscrew.

i use a set similar to the second one in post #1. but i have seen pics on the net of a 710 with clip removed.

on the 735 it looks as tho you cannot access the main screw unless you remove the clip, is that the prob ?

Yes! I cannot remove the two tiny screws (maybe T6) holding the clip; they don't want to budge None of the screwdriver bits that I have catch onto the screws.

There is probably thread lock goop on the screw threads - it can take quite a lot of force to break it if they've used the stronger stuff.

Okay, I shouldn't have said that they "don't want to budge." The screwdriver bits don't catch onto the screws. They look exactly like Torx screws, but T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T10, and T15 screwdriver bits don't fit. That's why I thought the screws were Security Torx, Torx Plus, external Torx, or TTAP screws. (discussed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx#Variants)

Sometimes a suitably sized hex key will engage weird Torx variants. Didn't realise there were so many of them.

I've got 7 different hex keys, and they don't catch onto the screws either. Good Perfect idea, though.

I'm starting to think that maybe even the Exduct screwdriver would not work on the SRM B4-735. I mean, it probably works for a lot of SanRenMu knives, but I have two different T6 and T10 screwdriver bits and they don't fit. I think I need to track down someone that has actually taken a B4-735 apart. Also, I could contact Exduct to see what they think would work.

Can you make a macro photo of the screw in question?

When i can't find the right bit i take a budget bit (the one with the nearest measure) and simply mod it with a file or with a grinding wheel.

I took some regular photos and they turned out horrible. Can I take a macro photo with a Canon Powershot A590 IS?

I can with my IXUS 80 , there is that flower symbol button which activates macro mode but unzoom first.... you can go very close to the object, like 5-20 cm .... manual of your cam page 61... you should get something like this:

Here's my best macro shot so far. I didn't read the manual (yet). I'm pretty sure a tripod would have made the picture better. Also, the screw on the left is somewhat stripped.
