US - Defiant "Super Thrower" 3C (New Model - +/-64mm Head XM-L) - Get To Home Depot Now!

A few photos of the Super Thrower with the BLF A8 body and vice versa:

The threads don't go together that well (at least not my samples). They thread together for a few threads and then you'd have to force them to fully thread them (which I didn't do).

I bought a couple of A8’s from China four days ago… tracking shows that they are already in San Francisco and doing a tour of their sort facilities (they’ve been to three already)…

I put a de-domed XML2/3C/T6 emitter and a 3.0 amp Qlite driver in one of these. The de-domed XML2 went to 160 kcd vs 78 kcd for the domed XML2 (measured at 2 meters). Color temp went from 4800K to 3050K

Beam shots of the domed (left) and de-domed (right) XML2 in the Defiants:

I have just read this and it does not quite make sense. I have a battery tube bored out to suit 26650 batteries that I’m giving away to anyone if they want to pay the postage.

RACE!! Mine “processed through sort facility” this morning, on its way to the east coast! But you’re about 1500 miles closer to your A8s than I am, so no fair :(…

It took three days from order to San Francisco. The A8’s have been hanging out there for the last four days…

I don’t remember, but did you get it from this seller on Ebay?

Mine took 5 days to get to SFO, and then sat in SFO for 2 more days, and it looks like it MIGHT be on its way here (I hope). The last couple of weeks, EVERYTHING seems to be slow shipping, even the FastTech stuff. It’s killing me!

Nope, I’m a cheap bastard and went with this:

Said the guy with a $5,000,000,000 table
Seriously though, I would have done the same exact thing. Ano colour would make no diff to me.

glad to see people making use of them, mines still in the que for modding, if I’m working with it I want 3 mode no strobe and xm-l 4c, much the same as my two edc’s I’m currently using……

garry,

I’m confused. I thought that A8 tube was suppose to work with the Defiant super thrower, but above, you said that there was a problem with the threads (between the DST and the A8 tube?

Jim

I just reported my experience with my own A8. Up til those pics I never tried my A8 with the Defiant. I assumed based on others experience that it threaded well. Maybe theirs does, I don't know. Others would have to chime in. I just know that for mine to thread on beyond the first few turns I'd have to force it and I'm not going to do that.

garry,

I appreciate that info. The A8 I ordered should be in tomorrow according to USPS tracking, so I’ll check it out when I get it and post back here also.

Jim

P.S. I wouldn’t have forced it either :)!

If it jams, force it! If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway.

The problem is that forcing it could potentially end up causing loss of 2 lights, i.e., both the DST and the A8 :(…

Then you have a good reason to buy two more shiny new lights.

I can’t speak for anyone else here, but really, I don’t need a good reason for buying two more lights :)!! More the other way around, having a hard time coming up with a good reason NOT to buy two more lights :)!!

These A8’s fit perfectly. Very fast shipping from the seller (china to US in three days). Then the package got a one week guided tour of the San Francisco mail sorting facilities.

If you are going to not use the Defiant switch, I would put a shorter spring the Defiant driver plate. The Defiant spring is rather long and could potentially lean over and short out to the tube. Probably not an issue if you use the 18650 sleeve. It acts as an insulator.

To put the A8 head on the Defiant body/switch, you need to add a spring (or move the Defiant spring to the A8 head).

Hi,

I got the A8 in today, along with a nice TrustFire charger (has a 3.0/4.2V switch) and a 26650, but have a couple of problems:

1) I move the A8 body and tailcap to the DST, and using either the 26650 or the 18650+adapter, it doesn’t turn on.

2) The A8 that I got actually looks pretty good. I like the anodization - looks almost like a giant Zebralight!

Re. 1) I tried several different batteries, and even tried with a magnet (carefully), but I can’t get the DST to work with the A8 body and tailcap.

WAIT! I had to turn on the A8 tailcap right?

Hold on…

Edit: DARN STUPID OF ME :(… Forgot to click the A8 tailcap switch!!

Still have the problem that this A8 looks so nice that I hate to cannibalize it :(!!
