Garry,

Isn’t FF *O*CONUS/in China?

Yes, I was simply responding to your request for a link. I doubt it's available CONUS.

Oops. My apologies. Got questions/answers mixed up. Unfortunately, I agree with your last sentence. The only possibility seems to be if some person just happens to be selling something on Ebay that happens to be CONUS.

At the same time, I keep wondering if there’s some more commonly available in the U.S. light that hasn’t been discovered to fit the Defiant’s tube :(….

I’ve never tried it, but I have see pictures of “torched” black ano lights. You can get various shades of a kind of brown color. I guess the questions are:

  • Does the Defiant have a plastic bezel?
  • If aluminum bezel, can the head be torched to a color that would match the A8 color?
  • If not, can the A8 clone be torched to match afterwords?

Anyone with experience in torching have an opion?

Hi,

The bezel is metal, but it’s not magnetic, so I’m guessing that it’s aluminum. I forget where, but I seem to recall that someone said that you could use some household chemical to de-anodize (I don’t know if the bezel is anodized, or just painted).?

Edit: What about just sanding the bezel? Would that work?

Edit: The one I saw about torching was copper if I recall.

when this post gets to 1000 posts garry has to give away a defiant 3c :stuck_out_tongue:

Or, maybe we should get one for him…… as punishment :)??

Hey! I only have 1 and I'm keeping it! I haven't seen them in my store anymore or else I would. I like Jim's idea better though! :)

I think I found an example of torching on a currently active BLF’ers light. If you look at post #26 of the following post, it looks like Dale’s 3T6 is torched in the top half of the light:

It changes the color from black to a copper like color.

Does anyone have any 26650 palights to try to fit?

Hi,

This is like… the neverendingquest :(… for a tube to replace on this light….

Indeed. I won’t mind having the 3C tube for emergency alky backup. But I really don’t want to add nimh Cs to my arsenal.

Has anyone experimented with putting an opaque circle in the middle of the lens of this light to produce a pencil-style beam ?

If the spill was blocked this might be a great light for night boating ...

Hi,

I haven’t, but have thinking of trying something like this:

20mm 15-Degree Optical Lens/Optic for Cree XM-L LED Emitters

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1606/10002020/1187501-20mm-15-degree-optical-lensoptic-for-cree-xm-l-led

Not sure how that would work though :(…

And we are now looking at $30+ lights to get the body tube off of, just to put it on a $23 light…

My light cost me $55.00 to get it to Aus. Driver $14.00, lens $10.00, bare XM-L2 led $7.00, copper star $4.00, switch $1.00, Boot $1.00, o’rings $1.00 and material $30.00. $123.00 for a Defiant 3C + labour. Lets just round it off too $1123.00.

Who wants to mod lights? To top it off the old fool has another on its way that will cost more to mod.

I just want to see the A8 head on the Defiant tube.

there’s already a picture of that….ish, it lights up too.

If anyone would like the battery tube for this light in Australia bored out to suit 26650 batteries they can have it for the price off the postage which is about $6-7.00.
