Vapcell H10 exploded while charging

Hi Forum,

just now i had a Vapcell H10 going into thermal runaway and exploding right on the desk. Charging was done with a LiitoKala Lii-100C.

Now, the Battery was in use in a D3AA/519a light.

May i have continuously overdischarged the Battery and this is what cause a defect within the cell?

Now i am a bit worried, as i have a few of these cells in use…

Has anyone some valuable input?

Cheers

10 Thanks

Sorry to hear about your accident. What was the voltage when you started charging it? What charging current?

Voltage was at about 3.4V - so idk. Not over-discharged…

2 Thanks

Where and when did you buy it?

Are you aware of this thread?

The self drain issues with these batteries is probably some sort of internal short, when charging the cell the current was enough to cause` a full short?
Sorry, meant to post this as me not the contest account.

Be happy that nothing more happened!:scream::man_facepalming:

well, yeah. i found the according thread after the fact. as always.

bought them from simon/convoy.
will drop him a message on this. even if its known.

fun fact: there seems to be no listing of the serials of the - very clearly - dangerous batches…

but i guess, as the other h10s i have are from the same shippning, i will ditch them immediately.

at least nothing bad happened. but it was quite the moment…

2 Thanks

Imagine what could happened.
I don’t talk about something really dangerous, but a larger fire and a case for the insurance would be bad enough. :frowning:

1 Thank

yeah. i was lucky - at least…

2 Thanks

Wait, wasn’t this a F15 when you posted the thread? If you had said “H10” I would have told you immediately that it’s a known problem with the H10 made in 2025.

1 Thank

This is first “catastrophic” failure I’ve seen, the multiple other reports are high self discharge, with a couple of users reporting they charged the cell again (!)

2 Thanks

yes. you are right. i corrected it - i thought it was a f15 at first…

1 Thank

so - i guess there will be more of these failures upcoming.

! funnily enough, even the successor K10 is delisted on tje vapcell homepage.

maybe the K10 is awaiting the same fiasco to come.

stupidly i have a few of them as well…

Wow! I missed that example, thank you.

That’s pretty scary, imagine if it had gone off in a light someone was carrying in their pocket

1 Thank

as i have understood, this may first and foremost happen when charging.

there is a dent in the concrete wall where the cell flew into. a DENT IN CONCRETE.

and this was a bare cell. when the cell is denied presdure release because it sits in a tube. well…

but i could be wrong - hopefully not!

sorry for your H10 battery explosion
Im glad you were charging while present at your desk, so you did not risk waking up to a fire in your house

how long ago did you buy that battery?

one of the unfortunate things about the defective H10s from 2025 is that there have been long delays before they go into fast self discharge during use or storage…, or thermal runaway during charging, or even exploding during storage a couple of hours after charging as Sammy linked to a post from 2 months ago..

glad nothing worse happened

this letter from illumn has instructions for safe disposal: (from Sammys link)

Please dispose of your H10 flat top cells:

Do not discard this recalled lithium-ion battery in the trash, general recycling streams (e.g., street-level or curbside recycling bins), or in used battery drop-off boxes commonly found at retail or home improvement stores. These drop-off points are not equipped to handle recalled lithium-ion products like power banks.

Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be handled differently from regular batteries because they pose a higher risk of fire. Your local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection center may accept this power bank for safe disposal. Before visiting, contact the facility to confirm whether it accepts lithium-ion battery-powered devices from recall programs.

Dang I’m glad you are ok! Was it a loud violent explosion? Or more of a quiet meltdown?

it was pretty heavy and sudden. maybe 3-4 seconds sparks and poof (more like BANG), the whole charging setup rocketed through the room along with veeeery ugly fumes. glowing parts of the interna all around.

luckily it flew right beside me - and the room is not excactly stuffed with easily flammable things/ floor.

so it was more of a shock.

having to take special measures to get rid of the ones i stillhave sucks (slightly)…

i bought them along with some lights from convoy around 11/25…

thanks for the details

very unfortunate that the H10 went into thermal runaway after 2 months of use…

this delay in the appearance of the problem makes it more difficult to predict which H10 batteries are defective..

apparently Convoy still had stock of the defective batteries in November 2025,

I believe the problem with H10 batteries was first discovered around June 2025… at that time there began to be reports of batteries overheating and self discharging while being stored. (not while on a charger)
