Most of my mods are emitter/driver swaps; nothing that would seem too impressive here. I haven’t gotten into circuit modifications or programming, but maybe that’ll be in my future. But if you think it would be giving back to the community I can post some write-ups of what I’ve done.
As for the Zebralight, I do have an iron tip that looks very similar to the one you posted, so maybe it’s time for me to sharpen an old screwdriver and use it as a bezel opening tool. And then the question becomes should I use a 5000K XHP 35.2 and slice it, or just go with the 4000K HI? Based on my recent experience with the XHP 50.3 emitters, 4500K seems to be the way to go, they just don’t make one in 90 CRI.
Yes, and a big thanks to Zak too from /r/flashlight for including BLF on his list of recommended alternatives in his Reddit blackout announcement page.
Great to see you again @masterironchef , thanks for stopping by!
I’m in the same boat. I’m currently not too interested in drivers/programming but there’s lots of other modding paths to take. I’ll be posting more on these projects in the next couple months and maybe they’ll give people some inspiration:
making triple and quad TIRs by sanding down singles and gluing them together.
related to above, modding single MCPCBs onto copper sheet to make larger triples/quads needed for larger TIRs.
making brass heads without the use of a lathe or mill by starting with a plumbing fitting and using simple tools.
adding aux LEDs to lights without using a custom PCB.
Probably 80% of my enjoyment of this hobby is related to modding. My “display shelf” to “parts bin” ratio is heavily weighted towards the latter (if that makes sense).
My phone’s web browser (using Chrome on a Pixel 7) told me BLF wanted to send me notifications, I allowed it, and yeah it notified me of a reply recently.
Re: receiving notifications on phone, I guess it does if you use the Discourse app pointed to earlier in this thread. I don’t (I’m an anti-app guy meaning I use a plain browser as much as possible), and rely instead on email notifications being sent to my email account and then on the notifications my email phone app already shows me (yeah, there’s the email app, it’s one of the few exceptions).
EDIT: just saw @sb56637 helped you with that email thing, great community here in BLF!
That, or most other mobile and desktop browsers too will also offer Discourse notifications.
Same here. With that said, the Discourse forum is very much an app that loads within the browser:
It’s basically the same thing as most dedicated apps for forums or websites that essentially wrap their website inside a stripped-down mobile web browser with no address bar and release it as an app. And the Discourse app is also just a modified Chromium mobile browser with a simplified UI that loads Discourse forums.
I sent you a message about PWA(Progressive Web App).
This would be helpful for me since I am an Android user.
Hopefully it makes sense and y’all can implement it without too much work.
Hi there, sorry if I wasn’t clear. There’s nothing to implement. Discourse is a PWA (Progressive Web App) that is already optimized for mobile screens and browsers.
