I’ve posted a bunch of it here in the past. Some of it really is excellent and often iconic for whatever the intended style or theme. Of course, there are varying degrees of human involvement in producing things within the spectrum of AI music. For instance, the guy from “There I Ruined It” made a video about his process. I might have shared it previously.
I feel like some people worry about this in the same way that people worry about folks falling in love with AI chatbots. That’s not my cup of tea and arguably a harder sell, but having complex programs evoke our feelings is just part of our world now. Where it will lead, I don’t know. Thinking back to much older comparison, did having high-quality records, tapes, or CDs stop me from wanting to go to the live show?
AI in general has too many aspects to it for me to rap my head around it yet. Hopefully it will cure cancer. At the same time data centers are popping up like mushrooms and my electric bill has doubled. Totally autonomous drones have hit the battlefield. My IRA is up. Information is a click away and the list goes on. We should probably start a dedicated thread.
Isn’t she great? If there was ever a song that actually does bring a teardrop, it’s that one. Same age as me, so she’d have been 45 in your video, when the Bristol trip-hop scene was big.
Beth Gibbons of Portishead is still out there making nice music. I’m proud of our generation’s musical legacy, it’s been a ride.
