What are you listening right now ?

Really nice vocal!

Vocals are good, but not great. The guitar playing, however, is magnificent!

Goose is the real deal. To my ear, one of the best new jam bands out there.

Glen Campbell • South Dakota Symphony Orchestra – "Classical Gas" (live, 2001)

Together with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Glen Campbell plays a rendition of “Classical Gas” that is much closer to the original, by Mason Williams, than the versions by Eric Clapton and Tommy Emmanuel. In 2001, Campbell’s performance was released on CD and DVD, as Glen Campbell in Concert with the South Dakota Symphony. The video aired on PBS.

In the middle section, which is primarily orchestral, Campbell’s guitar is somewhat buried in the mix, but that’s no different than the Mason William original. I’d have liked to hear a bit more guitar. Overall, however, Campbell delivers a great performance.

Note:  In 1978, Glen Campbell recorded “Classical Gas” with the Boston Pops orchestra. YouTube has the video. The playing is excellent, but the sound quality is poor, due to the lo-fi, monaural technology used by television at that time.
