The Sofirn HS21 seems to get a lot of recommendations. Any other good options for cheaper? I’ve seen some recommendations for the Wuben H1 as well. Hoping to pick up a few
My headlight of choice is the Sofirn HS20.
I don’t have the HS21, but I don’t like TIR lenses, and the HS21 has one.
Do you have the XHP50 or SFT40 LED?
SFT40 for throw.
What is budget and good option?
Perhaps headlamps I can get delivered to the US for $20 to $25 off aliexpress before the de minimis exception ends next month.
By price up D10, Convoys H1, Sofirn HS42, Shilhunt H04.
+1 for HS21. It’s a v. usable light, though you may need to wait for one of the Sofirn’s quite regular sales to get it for less than $25.
Wurkkos H25L
I find the Convoy H2 particularly compelling because it offers the Nichia B35AM LED, which has outstanding color rendering and very good efficiency. There are a variety of TIR optics that can be installed for different beam profiles; the striped options with oval beams might be useful for a headlamp.

I recommened HS21 as well. Really well thought out light. I had HS20 before, but its leds were so high above the eyes, that when doing closeup work, your eyes and light source were too misaligned. You often had to wiggle your head to avoid shadows in workpiece and it got annoying quickly.
If you don’t care about the type of beam or spread.
If you don’t care about the color temperature.
If you don’t care about the cri.
If you don’t care about how the head strap works.
If you don’t care about the charging method.
If you don’t care about the UI and how many mode levels it has.
Does it really matter what people think?
I think that price should be the last consideration after all of the above.
You’ve settled on an 18650 battery size so that means you want something that you can strap on your head for more than an hour. I think you’ll find that all of the above issues matter more than price once you strap it on your head.
H04R+ Sft40 + few tir optics+ custom driver.
Suum cuique!
I’ve got the D25L - it’s a great cheap general purpose headlamp. It’s light so you don’t really notice it after a while. I use it around the house and yard a lot. https://www.sofirnlight.com/collections/headlamps/products/d25l-rechargeable-headlamp-with-dual-lh351d-led
I stuck a magnet externally on the battery cap- so it’s now magnetic too.
You should clarify what you want to use it for- do you want long distance, a wide spread etc.
I use headlamps most frequently in my attic, and I’d also like a couple to keep in the car for emergencies.
I’m pretty open-minded and curious about other people’s recommendations. I plan on buying several, so each one doesn’t have to suit every purpose.
One problem I have with headlamps that I don’t hear discussed much is the ability to look at other people without blinding them. Not sure how to achieve that while maintaining visibility, but that would be my ideal.
On this note, HS21 defaults to Low on each of the four channels that you can pick with the rotary dial. I keep it this way when camping, except I set the Spot to Moon, which is dim and focused enough not too blind others too much when pointed low.
Wear lightweight headlamp on your neck. As it is lightweight no need of middle strap.
That’s the point: I have seen and experienced people with headlamps being polite and rotating the lights sideways or turning the headlamp off, not to disturb others. Commendable and appreciated - but how about making it non-irritating in the first place? HS21 Spot in Moon has this potential - not that many headlamps have such focused Spot - around 10 cd/lm.
