I have an M21A with a 12 group 6A driver and at 2.3A it’s perfectly capable of lighting up objects over 300 ft away. That’s a very satisfying LED & host combination.
I replaced the stock 6A linear driver in my M21A SFT40 to the new 20mm 8A buck driver. It runs cooler and has way higher efficiency. I thinks it’s the best upgrade you can give to a M21A, especially with a low Vf LED like the SFT40. Now on any mode except turbo it sips on battery.
Now aiming to get rid of all the linear / FET lights in my collection…
IMO Convoy’s new series of buck / boost drivers is what sets them apart from other budget brands. (looking at you Sofirn and Wurkkos…)
Will be flashlight modding as well again but here a small knife mod.
The Civivi Elementum is famously lacking lefty clip mounting (shame on Civivi!) so I made one for my new buttonlock ultem Elementum.
Made no workinprogresspics but it was straightforward:
The clip screws are M2.5 so the bore hole for that is 2mm. With the knife engaged and clip removed, on my drill press I could simply use the existing clip holes facing up to guide the 2mm drill and drill all the way through the liner and scale on the other side. So no measuring or disassembly at all needed. Same procedure with the M2.5 tap: I screwed the tap into the existing threaded holes and once it reached the other half it started cutting the new threading .
I was planning to do the cutout in the scale to nest the clip and getting the screws to reach the liner, but upon test-screwing the clip, the threaded ultem material provided rocksteady grip for the screws already so I did not bother with the painstaking cutting and chiseling, the clip is good to go.
Nice looking knife. Struggles of left handed people?
Yes, if the clip is on the correct side, when the knife is clipped inside the front pocket of your trousers, the knife opens towards the corner (side seam of the trousers) of the pocket. If it is on the wrong side, the knife opens towards the middle of the pocket, so when the knife accidently opens in your pocket you will grab into the blade (which happened to me twice, with fairly bloody results). So many, not all, knives have a reversible pocket clip.
A mod a bit more flashlight related.
I went through a long series of chinese bike handlebar mounts for flashlights, because I cycle to work, twice half an hour per day, in winter it is dark both ways. And all of them s*ck: brittle rubber and plastic, or bulky things that look hideous. So today (well, last week) after some tinkering I made something very basic that does the job better than anything I had before.
Together with some bungy cord fixed around the flashlight it works like a dream, with the light always pointing at the same position: about 8 meter before the bicycle on the ground.
If I forget my bicycle flashlight I can also use my EDC light instead fixed to the mount with any hair tie (which I do not use but are found everywhere on the ground where I live)
Nice. Simple.
Nice simple mod but metal on metal contact just makes my butt clench. You can add some soft padding on the metal rails to not scratch the hell out of a nice light.
A bike tire tube would be the perfect solution IMO, just gotta cut the 2 holes for the bolts.
This is great djozz! The commercial offerings really are insufficient. PVC tube is something I find as a ‘solution material’ for many ideas I have. Thank you for the idea and I know what material I’ll use!
Nice to hear that the bike mount solution may be useful for you as well . I’m not too worried about scratching my flashlight, this one is a daily beater anyway, and besides: the bit of aluminium profile that I used is much softer than the ano of a flashlight. And the light when clamped is not moving around at all.
Is that a W1 in a TS12?
Not sure how well it’ll hold up long term, I’m pretty sure the light has a FET driver.
Don’t use a Vapcell H10 at least.
Right, W1.
No worries. This is just to play with for a while and podobały will end up as a gift with PCB 14500 included.
If you put a W2 in it, it’ll definitely hold up fine. It should be similarly high intensity as well.
How the LED behaves at turbo? Does it get angry blue?
Yes. But I just don’t have one at hand
No, it’s not getting blue at all.
This is comparison to SFT-40 6500K in Jax Z1 (left)
White balance Fixed at 5000K
Using purple Efest IMR 9.75A
Looks nice. The LED is bit off-center however. Might need a 3030 gasket to nail the centering.
Or if you are really crafty, you can cut a 3030 opening 45 degrees rotated from the original 3535 opening.
