D4s modded with 12 amp 2 channel driver linked both channels to try and get 24 amps to sft40’s
Cool idea, but seeing how they’re linear channels, wouldn’t it be better to use the FET power channel?
Especially with a 21700 adapter, for a P45B or something like it.
Nice, it works. Is there any benefit from this though, other than testing what happens? You could get more max output from single channel driver.
Did it just to see if it worked…which single channel driver would u recommend
You can keep the driver that’s currently in it.
All you’d have to do is flash the right hex file, I think it’s called “emisar-2ch-fet-joined”, it enables the CH1 linear and FET, making it behave like a regular single channel light. It’s what I use in my own SFT40 D4Sv2
Yeah, that’s another how it behaves thing again, when both channels are wired in and another has FET enabled. You’ll only know by trying I think.
I got that one and was able to fit the driver and xhp50.3 HI. Overall its pretty awesome upgrade over the sst40 xm-l2 clone. Brighter and the tint is better. The only downside is the quality of these D10 hosts has gone downhill. Mine had lots of sharp edges that i had to run a needle file over to keep from scratching or cutting myself. The threads had burrs leftover from machining and the body seemed flimsy. The Slonik i got off Amazon is way better, but i couldn’t mod it.
Yup, that was my experience as well. The only problem with my older D10s is that the usb port is still micro-usb shaped, and I don’t have a file or dremel bit that fits in the hole to shape it, but I’m planning on getting one. Other than that, the old build quality is way better.
Working on an S2+ mod.
I discovered that the stock heatsink is no good, having a .0125" [.32mm] dish to the MCPCB pocket.
So as a somewhat expedient way to complete my mod, I proved out some CNC programs for triple and single emitter BIG RET heatsinks to fit the newer version S2+, which has trapezoidal threads. The old s2+ pills had truncated triangular threads.
Is this a current-gen S2+?
It would be good to have Simon know about this if it is.
Yea.
The S21A pill has issues too, mainly that the driver shelf is not flat at all, but is angled something like 30-45 degrees, so the electrical and thermal contact for the driver happens through the ret ring rather than the shelf.
Awesome!
I’ll have to check my own convoys the next time they are apart, that is concerning, hopefully other pill lights are unaffected (like the S6)
The S21A pill isn’t as big of a deal because you can always solder the driver on if it’s just not making reliable contact, at least.
@Simon_Mao could you look into the dished S2+ shelves please?
I will look into my S2+ green also, this was bought one to two years ago.
Yes. My older D10 I got off AE in i think 2022 had the micro USB, and the quality, while not as good as the Slonik D10, was only slightly better than the usb C one I modded. I guess that’s how you can sell a complete headlamp with battery for under $12.
Some more TS10 mods:
SFS75 and RGB aux with @MasterNate’s 3535 and aux PCBs. I ended up having to slice an additional 0.5mm off the flat silicone to stop the TIRs from mashing into the emitters, but overall a pretty fun mod. (Also ordered V2 drivers from Wurkkos by messaging them on AliExpress). This runs even hotter than the stock TS10s, and I estimate around 1600-1800lm OTF (I don’t have a lumen tube so take this with a grain of salt)
Also revisited my mule TS10 and glued in a 17mm glass lens from Convoy as opposed to the clear UV epoxy lens I had cast previously, attached with a thin bead of more UV epoxy. The lens just sits on top of the bezel, so I might also add some UV epoxy from inside the bezel to better secure it.
Damn that mule looks sweet!
Thanks I’ll give it a shot
Left: I put an SFT70 into a Convoy M21B 6V5A host. It throws very well at 80kcd, and sustains over 60kcd for 3min.
Right: I also fixed my burnt XHP50.3HI in the Tan Convoy M21B 6V8A. First I used a 5000K (r70), which was 15% brighter than the first 4000K (r70). But i did not like the tint at duv 30.
So, I swapped it out to another 4000K that I had ready. And it is unbelievably nice now! Nearly as bright as the 5000K, but with duv of -0.0085. Yes, it does look incredible!
It throws well too at 75kcd for 15s, and then holds 60kcd for over a minute, at which point it is very hot without cooling.
The xhp50.3hi 4000K r70 from simon is the most underrated emitter IMO.
I love that one!
