What to do with CR2 3V Batteries?

In my last order with 4 sevens I bought a mini x 123. I also mistakenly ordered 10 CR2 not 10 CR123. I wish they had noticed. I only just noticed. I've wasted $19 and have no idea what to do with them. What lights use them? 2 on end is like a aa. I'm tempted to try them in a 14500 light but 6.4v might be an issue

Well, you could always get a flashlight to match the batteries. I know, a bit extreme, but it would only enhance your collection. There used to be a Quark MiNi in CR2 format.

Doesn't look like they sell them any more. I just tried it in my mini 123 x and due to the spring they work with a few magnets. Which surprised me as they are much shorter. Makes the light even lighter. Probably will get a cr2 light anyway. lol. Just did a bit of a stocktake and wondered why I have bought so many lights. 70+. It didn't help that the "hoarder show" was on pay tv.

I think the Aurora SH-033 might be a good choice.

(I didn't do much research, but it's looks like the best CR2 flashlight from DealExtreme.)

Thanks

You have to realize the depths of our addiction when we suggest getting a new flashlight to match some batteries. And that suggestion is met with approval. Any excuse to get new lights, I guess.

"What is this package?"

"Well, dear, I had some batteries lying about that I needed to use, but they didn't fit anything, so I got a new light for them."

"Really? This is an acceptable solution for you?"

"Perfectly. I wouldn't want to waste these perfectly good batteries, would I?"

Interesting, thanks.

I could make you a CR2 to CR123a adapter...

Here is a quote form ChicagoX that I pulled form this thread. I thought it might be of interest.

"The smallest P60 setup I've seen to date was the Solarforce L2 M Mini.

It's a Solarforce L2 body with the main tube removed. One can run a CR2 as-is, or a CR123 with a spring or tailcap mod.

It's about 18mm shorter than a L2M with the same tailcap, IIRC.

EDIT: There is also another way to get a mini. Using a Surefire LU60 adapter with an A21 makes for a VERY short 1 x CR123 torch."

To be honest, I'm not sure how he got the head and tail together without the main tube (the main tube has male threads on both ends), but since he is only a PM away...

You might even have all the parts to do this already, assuming you have some Solarforce stuff lying around.

You could make a super short version of the Solarforce L2 . As i understand it , it's possible to unscrew the old version of the L2 right behind the head ( With some force , as I recall ) and screw the tailcap right on there . You would then use a low voltage dropin and have the shortest P60 Solarforce possible .

If someone has the link ....

I'm still using CR2s in several ArcLSs (Bombelman aftermarket battery case). Very small, very convenient format.

Could maybe use them with a 3 to 18v drop-in? Saw a few of those looking around on Solarforce or DX yesterday. The drop-in will still be useful with just one lithium.

Yes they do! Even better it is a high-CRI light. The Quark Mini (123) is my favorite light. I bought several of their S2 emitter specials when they had them... already misplaced/lost one. If you find it, please send it to me.

interesting

I ended up buying from DX . Probably won't get it as my last order was refunded by paypal. They also work in my l2m (just) but I need a lower voltage drop in.

The only cr2 light I have is a Coleman Max. They discontinued them a few years ago but I picked up 2 at a flea market a while back. I edc'd one for a while until I got a E03, and the other is still in it's original packaging.

Nice little cheap cr2 light, IF you can find one.

I have this exact same Coleman Max light, bought it several years ago at wally world. Forgot all about it, so I was cleaning up around the desk tonight and… there it was under a bunch of junk! I had tossed it aside a long time ago after getting into better lights and not wanting to buy those expensive (and hard to find) CR2 primary’s. I thought what the heck am I going to do with this?

Well I had just placed and order with Battery Junction for some CR123 batteries and figured I could call them in the morning and have some CR2’s added to my order, so I went back on their site to look but the cheap ones ($1.00 ea.) were sold out. They had Duracells for around $2.00 but I really didn’t want to spend $4.00 for a set of batteries for it.

So then I got to thinking could I adapt this thing somehow to work on a Li-ion? Hmmm, a 14500 looked like a good candidate being only a few volts less and only a bit smaller. So I grabbed an AW 14500 and stretched out the tail cap spring just a bit, dropped it in and shazam! It works fine, seems just as bright as it was too. And even though the 14500 is a little thinner I couldn’t notice any rattle at all.
