What you got today

Got my first King Kong 26650 in the mail yesterday from I-O. Rigged up a charging circuit since it is too big for my WF-139 and topped it off overnight. Didn't get a chance to play with it yet but it does fit great in my HD2010.

Did you use magnets? Could you put a photo?

Which King Kong? INR? Raised Top?

I did use magnets. Can’t take a picture until tonight but will describe it. Very simple to make.

  • Took a section of 1/2" wood dowel slightly shorter than an 18650
  • Set it in the charger to see where contact points are.
  • Drilled pilot hole on each end at contact point.
  • Screwed in a button-top screw at each end leaving enough exposed for wire connection.
  • Took some heavier but flexible copper core wire and cut two pieces (one black & one white) about 10-12" long.
    • Stripped just over 1/2" of insulation from one end on each piece of wire
    • Wrap the exposed end of the white around the positive screw of the dummy cell and tightened the screw all the way.
    • Wrap the exposed end of the black around the negative screw of the dummy cell and tightened the screw all the way.
  • Strip 1/4" of insulation from the other end of each wire.
  • Solder a small steel flat washer to each end of each wire.
  • I just used a small 2x6mm neo magnet on the flat side of each washer then connected the white wire's magnet to the positive terminal of the Kong and the black wire's magnet to the negative of the Kong.
  • Insert dummy cell into the charger, see the light go red for charging, then wait for it to turn green.

I got the flat topped INR. I want to use it in my MCU-C88 as well and with the button top it would never fit. At least with the flat top it will fit a lot better. All my lights have springs at positive driver connection and I don’t use 26650 in series so flat tops are no problem for me. I have another Kong INR on the way, too.

Sorry, yes. Actually all of the batteries I have are Ultrafires, not TF. I will fix above.

Hmm. . . perhaps I should have stuck with the flat-top. Do we know if the raised top fits in the new Cyclone C88?

I hope so that's what I have coming.....

I agree, everything about this light (including the box) is amazing. As of right now it has replaced my Zebralight SC600w as my EDC. I didn't know there was a light out there that could do that. I feel safer holding a eneloop in my mouth than holdin an 18650 in my mouth.

got a flashlight swivel table clamp. it replaces my Joby Gorillapod. it's really strong. i like the built quality very much. it's gonna last me forever.

one of the best buys i did so far in 2012!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to those who could need such a thing or who use a gorillapod.

Got some goodies today!

MAC LIGHT, SF L2, SF L2M, 14500 and some 18650's

Very nice score. The Match Mod is a piece of artwork, take good care of it. The L2M was a smoking deal I bought 2 I wish I got a couple more before they sold out. Is that the Sand L2 that's on sale for $8 bucks? If it is can you post some more info?

It is the sand L2 but I did not know about http://www.solarforceflashlight-sales.com/ when I bought it so I actually picked it up off of itc_shop on ebay and payed a little under $13 for it. The L2M body I just picked up from lighthound.

So glad the light arrived safely, Jessie! Even more glad you like it.Letting me know what you think after a good shake down. 8)

I received some triple neutral goodness, wired up by our resident mad scientist dorpmuller.

I'll post up some pics tomorrow. It's bee-yooo-ti-ful.

Nice! Can’t wait to see the pics. :davie:

Update: The 4000 and 3000 batteries run fine in my son's C8, and has same emitter as mine. In both lights, these higher cap batteries pull more current than his 2000s and my 2400s, but total current is still modes (2.0A on my meter and 0.9 on his (identical but with very thin wire leads). So it looks like the issue is these batteries just aren't compatible with the driver in the drop-in for my Sunray S-R5 XML. Will be trying a couple new drop-ins in the next few days, and just wanted to leave an all clear on the batteries here.

dont try another dropins, most of them are dd with pwm only.. replace the driver for 8amc version from kd and buy better batteries (at least trustfire "3000mAh") and you will be happy :)

I got the Red Zombie Hunter MAC Light a couple of weeks ago. Apparently it is your purple one's twin. I struggled mightily choosing the Red over the Purple, believe me. You are going to love it - fantastic little light and seriously bright! Curious if went with the TIR or the reflector in it?

Finally got the Manafont sku 5720 drop in for the L2. Both ordered (L2from Solarforce) on 25th April, L2 arrived on 5th, so been staring at an empty host for nearly two weeks.

Now, this is my first drop in, so I took the L2 glass off & tried to fit it that way. Doh! Got it right in the end (I think), but just wonder if I should use some foil, or cut tin can to improve heat sinking.
