I was looking for an all digital signal pathway, from BT to my receiver’s optical input because something happened to the analog ones where there is hum intruding on the sound. I’ve been using a Drok BT DIY device for my other sound systems and a shielded 3.5mm aux cable works fine with those.
I listened to music through an Android phone {equalized at first but settled on flat) as well as an iPad and stayed up way too late just enjoying the sound quality. Even the ‘direct’ sound setting on the receiver finally sounded acceptable for listening.
Since I am a member of the tiny-shiny-things fanclub I could not resist: The Fenix Silvglow.
He/she/they was welcomed by the eldest (and smallest) member of tiny-shiny-things: my Ultrafire UF-1Ti.
You’ll see the difference in size. But still, I’m satisfied. BTW, I’ve got number “3900”.
Well maybe not today but still quite recently, a pair of SS (?) 2D flashlights made in the 80’s by Ranex for HEMA, a Dutch variety chain store.
Found these on marktplaats(dot)nl , a classified advertising site based in the Netherlands.
Why a pair (two separate sellers)? Well what are the odd’s that everything is AOK after 40 or so years. And I was right.
The first light (€ 5.00) was in good order. With one tiny flaw, the tailcap wouldn’t come of (thanks Duraleak).
So I ordered a second light (€ 11.00) with a healthy tailcap, but the light itself was “fixed” a few times too often.
The second picture shows a light that is working all-ringht, and a light in progress. There is some resemblance with a Maglite.
The light is about 5mm shorter than a 2D Maglite. But the head is not meant to be disassembled.
The Maglite has a unique switch-unit, with a screw through the centre and a retaining ring up front.
The Ranex uses a rather common standard switch, and two retaining rings. One up front and one under the switch unit.
The upper light is working just fine now. The light below needs some TLC and a miracle to get the tailcap off.
The newly updated Speras M4 V2 with scratched reflector. arrived yesterday. The entire reflector is covered with light scratches barely visible in the pic.
In my limited (6-7 years) experience into the “enthusiast” Chyna mfg light genre, it seems QC has drastically degraded. Not to say it affects all mfgrs, but I can detect an increasing lack of attention to detail regarding handling/ assembly over time in most of the samples I’ve purchased. I forgive most of it in light of the ridiculously low cost of the delivered end product, but there are reasonable expectations. Most of my collection from the early days are relatively free from such defects thankfully, but over the last couple of years not so much. It has definitely curbed my purchasing. It’s personal perception on my part, but your comment regarding the condition of that reflector only reinforces my apprehension.
Yes, I ordered it with the 18650 tube but have already arranged for a return and ordered another with fingers crossed as the thing really has an incredible, tight beam without the nasty limey tint of the previous generation. Would love to have an SFT40 in one of these!!
Not sure about the glass but it is definitely the reflector that is covered with fine scratches- Really impossible not to see them!
The bezel isn’t glued and can be unscrewed. Mine has the reflective coated glass in front of the TIR. The scratches would annoy me too.
The legs of the TIR appear to be glued into the MCPCB. I got it out by putting some heavy duty 3M double sided tape on it - and stuck the other side to a steel ruler (closest thing I had handy!) That got it out straight away.
Dawson Machine Craft Divot Slim in bronze. H17Fx w/519a 3500k.
I learned that DMC isn’t far from where I live. So I emailed and asked if I could come visit his shop and talk a bit and learn about his lights and such.
Josh was a great host and had no problems answering any questions I threw at him. He even suffered through my rambling stories and such with no problem. What a great guy! While I was there, I picked up this beautiful Divot Slim.
I know people have been bickering a little about Hanks LED being rosy. I, however, think it’s great! The 5000k definitely has a better tint than the FFL351A 5000k.
