It’s a CPF classic. The ol’ Icon Rogue, a design developed by none other than Paul Kim.
LOL!
Totally TactiCool
Came with a quick release neck lanyard so I could strut about prepared for the Carrot Apocalypse, without any risk of hanging myself.. LOL!
Funny, since @jon_slider bought my Icon Rogue AA several years ago.
And then I ended up getting it from him later. Bit of nostalgia associated with that light.
My all-time favorite AA size lights?
Skilhunt E2A with sst20 4000k RA95 (gifted to my son in 2022)
Lumintop FWAA (still use)
Sofirn SP10 v3
Some modded old lights Sunwayman R05 (don’t use anymore due to the FWAA)
Will eventually get a D3AA
I didn’t mention this one because they are hard to find today. I do like it quite a bit though. It doesn’t get carried because it is the only one I have… While I have something like 15 TS10s.
There’s better options out now (D3AA is a better light if you want AA side switch) and honestly there’s nearly simarly sized 18350 and even 18650 lights that are far superior like ArmyTek Prime C1 Pro, Olight Warrior Nano, new Fenix PD26R ACE I got fir review is nice) Manker E14 IV.
I really liked the Nitecore D10 form, fit and ramping driver.
But I never had one that survived more than a few months without inductor and/or parasitic drain issues.
Repairs to the drivers were a monumental PITA.
One of the lads I work with still has a first run that seems unstoppable. Funny how the flashlight failure gremlins work.
Whats everyones favorite rechargeable cell for the D3AA? Since it seems to be gaining a lot of attention in this thread. Just curious!
Vapcell H10.
I use these. The h10 is if i decide I might want to use turbo mode sometime.
**The main cell is the f15, at over 5 Wh, it is almost double the power capacity of the eneloops. It still handles decent drain, but I run my d3aa with a max of 8H6C ceiling, essentially 150-85, or 65/150, (I estimate it to be around 100-120 lumens?)
What’s a reasonable CDR for it?
spec for the USB cell is 4A CDR
Spec for the other two LiIon in photo is 3A CDR
this review shows amp draw of D3AA at each output:
I personally do not use more than Level 6, 533 lm, 1.31A
because level 6, 7, and Turbo are not sustainable, I avoid them.. therefore I dont need High CDR battery
my primary use is indoors, the light is too floody for outdoors, has very little throw
I use D3AA as my Go to Bed light (turn off lights, walk thru dark rooms), on step 3, 28 lm
and as my nightstand light at very low (sublumen), on step 1, 0.01 to 0.05 lm
What is level 6 in steps, X/151?
excellent question
If Im reading this hdwdef for D3AA correctly, step 6 of 7 is level 110/150.. added the others to this chart, which originally came from this 1lumen review
// 10 30 [50] 70 90 110 130
#define RAMP_DISCRETE_FLOOR 10
#define RAMP_DISCRETE_CEIL 130
#define RAMP_DISCRETE_STEPS 7
There are seven steps from 10/150 to 130/150, so step 6 is 110/150.
@jon_slider and @SammysHP thank you! Very informative!
