WildTrail WT90 - SBT90.2 1800m+ throw 90mm 3x 21700 With Texas_Ace driver

I am using a $5 tool bag from harbor freight, fits nicely with a little packing material I added as lining. It is a 11" version of the bag I believe. My extra batteri3s fit nicely too.

for about $20 I saw an Imalent case on Neal's gadgets I really wanted to buy, measurements seems like they wI'll work . It was a bag made for like 3 different large imalent lights, to be used interchangeably

Nah, bit of duct tape it’ll be good as new  Seriously though, you’re right, a rewrap should be straightforward enough to sort.
A loose wrap makes sense but i thought i’d investigate a little more and I think i can see what’s happened. The positive pad on the 48T is quite recessed, more so that the 40T, so it seems like a simple case of physics:

(Blue 40Ts on the left, beige 48Ts on the right)

I’m a little hesitant now to use the 40Ts as planned, they might not be a problem but i don’t like the idea of a potential problem waiting to happen if it can be avoided. Like djozz i plan to leave the batteries in the carrier but at some point in the future they’ll be removed either by me or someone else.

Are other people’s 40Ts slightly recessed as well?

From the pictures i’ve seen the Molicell P42As look like their positive contact is slightly raised which would remove the risk, can anyone who has them confirm that for me please?

I’m glad you’ve had good interactions with Wildtrail and i think it shows in the finished product, it has a certain coherency to it.

I find the battery carrier interesting, inserted into some sort of vented sleeve it could make a nice powerbank on it’s own. Maybe a spin-off product?

I can confirm the molicel were easier to insert and remove from the carrier, and my 40t were a little more difficult but because of past experiences I was aware of what would happen if I pulled to hard in the "wrong direction" when removing them, so I made a concscious effort to push down on the spring end giving the positive end more room to clear the brass button. 40t then came out with no problems.

I really like the seperate battery charge idea you brought up

Here is the storage bag I was considering to buy, if my tool bag didn't work out as well as it did:

Thanks Artiet59, for both the confirmation and liking my idea
What happened previously when you pulled in the wrong direction?

You're welcome Marc E! The battery carrier design is solid, and I imagine a cool "body" that mimics the WT90 body for the charger. That'd be cool!

when preoviosily pulled it out in the wrong direction (more like the wrong angle), it snagged the top edge of the wrapper, the purple wrapper that surrounds the white positive contact plastic disc. I was worried I tore the purple wrap, based on the noise it made, but it didn't thankfully. Now I'm more careful, although I've only changed batteries 1 other time since then.

Wow, you are right, those cells are way more recessed then I expected. Guess it is a case of those being a bad choice.

I made a well-working handle for my WT90  , see the whatdidyoumodtoday-thread.

Great work. On a scale of 1-10 djozz (and others, especially the truly ‘budget’ conscious), how much would you recommend the WT90? Is there any 90.2 light that makes more sense? I looked forward to the Convoy 4x18A 90.2 for the longest time, but the UI issues and suboptimal reflector are holding me back.

I’m not really sure, maybe 8.5?

I love that deep reflector, and it is so much easier to carry than a GT while still doing 1Mcd. The size of the WT90 hits one of the size/throw sweet spots for a thrower with SBT90.2 led, and it is cheaper than the competition, while being better thought-out, this is all IMO of course.

I have a LEP light that throws about the same distance and is much smaller. But it has no spill and only 450 lumen. The WT90 has a much better real world performance I think, but I did not have the opportunity yet to check that out.

Is the coupon still good? It’s not working for me

For the silver or black?

They mentioned that they would be stopping the black soon but were supposed to let me know when it officially ended. The silver will still be active once the remaining lights get in stock. They have had a few raw component (and even metal) shortages that have delayed things. Should be any day now though last I heard.

If the black is dead then sadly that GB would seem to be over, I need to update the OP. Not to worry though, the silver will still be active once they get them in stock.

Excited for silver…

Either one would be ok, a mix of black and silver would be good also

Still waiting for a Silver WT90.

Yeah, several people are, sadly they ran into shortages of raw metal and components to finish them, they have just been sitting idle waiting for the materials to come in so they could finish making them.

Last I heard they should be finished any day now.

I am waiting to see a comparison between this WT90 and Astrolux MF02S V2. They look almost identical. But the Astrolux one is much more expensive.

If I have WT90, I don’t need Astrolux MF02S V2, which I think is too expensive.

I have both, and the looks are similar but there are some significant differences, in favor of both. Of what i know, these are a couple differences.

MF02sV2:

-35amp CC boost driver (3 x 13amp drivers) - i read this in reviews, i do not know this to be absolutely true.

-84 mm head, 72mm reflector

-4x18650 2S2P batteries, no carrier, need battery >20amp for max output

-Astrolux Proprietary UI, no Mode memory, no thermal adjustments (55 degree cut)

- 818 grams without batteries

WT90:

-FET driver (?)

-100mm head, 89mm reflector

-3x21700, parallel in carrier

-Narsil UI, mode memory available, thermal cutoff optional

-752 grams without batteries

The MF02s V2 runs much hotter, has a thermal cutoff you cannot turn off so it drops out of turbo within 1 minute. The WT90 handles heat much better and the output stays consistent for longer. The MF02sV2 is most liekly brighter (and the LED turns blue-ish on turbo) because of the very high output drivers, this could be a positive or negative. For me, id rather have the max output a little lower and be more consistent for longer than be brighter but only last in that brightness for 45 seconds-1minute. That is 100% preference, but ive been using both of these lights a lot over the last couple of weeks (the mf02sv2 longer, like a month) and overall i would 100% recommend the wt90. its not just a personal attachment because of this thread lol, its because :

-WT90 holds higher lumens longer, more consistently

-WT90 stays less hot MUCH longer

-WT90 has larger reflector, throws further, is lighter weight, is only about 15mm longer making it feel barely large than the mf02sv2, but with many advantages and (to me) no disadvantages to the MF02sv2.

-The only disadvantages i could see is the MF02sv2 has a more powerful and expensive driver (probably adds to the cost), but for me it makes the light run very warm quickly. the extra brightness I could take or leave.

Is it concerning that neal has posted this light with a code?

In black though

This is the bag im using to hold my WT90 (it also holds the mf02sv2, ive been using the together to compare). Its a cheap tool bag, holds extra 18650's and 21700's too.
