Greetings humans!
After my Wuben X4 review, Wuben asked me if I wanted to Review their G5 flashlight and sent me one for free.
So here we are. I have seen this light but never bought it, because of the small head and the thermal problems that go with it. Now that I have it, it is quite a nice light for your pocket and is quite versatile for close-range use. Especially for one specific purpose, there is no better light in my collection. At least for me.
So let’s begin.
The outside looks nice an taccy with a lot of chamfers
Same “problem” as with the X4, the dent-thingys leave marks. In comparison with the X4, the indentation is less powerful.
Same Rotation-Button Design like the X4, just smaller
The UI:
In locked Mode: Nothing ever happens
In light mode and charging mode:
You click, it goes to white light on, with memory mode.
Double click while on: 100%, not changable via the wheel, no indication that you are in high mode when you try to.
Double click while off: RGB blinking mode, another double click goes to next blinky mode (all of them are police style, red/blue, red/green, red/yellow)
Long click while in white mode: Go to RGB mode. Here you can change the color to one of 7 preset colors via the wheel. Long click goes back to white mode.
Double click while in RGB mode: Goes to Beacon mode for the selected color. Color can not be changed in Beacon mode, you must go back to normal RGB mode for that.
The RGB LED is also used as a charging-indicator.
Strong magnet in the back. No problem holding the light even on thin steel.
The inbuilt clip on the side…
… can be moved to either side by pulling it out and swivel it around. Because it can be pulled out, it has a lot of space and will fit on a lot of thick jeans or workpants. It lifts away from the case around 3.5mm.
The swivel head has three indents, one forward and one on each side, 90° offset.
This is the maximum you can “bend” the head down, this gives it a bit better usability if you want the light to stand next to what you are working on.
Inside, protected by a thick silicone gasket, the black around the USB port is also some type of rubber.
The back of the slide switch - the small 4-pin chip and it’s brother underneath the ribbon cable are probably hall effect sensors for the switching.
We all know how important good lubrication is…
The rotating mechanism fo the head. Notice that the screw is also a bit nicked.
One thing that bugs me a little and might bug someone else more, the screwed-on part on the side is a little bit shorter than the body.
Also shows on the chamfers not fitting together perfectly
Since I now have a microscope with a somewhat good camera:
The T5 Torx screws of the switch were a bit mangled from the factory
The laser etching is very nice
Since we can see the right corners of the main LED but not the left, I assume it uses the same style as in the X4, some 2016 LEDs. The Reflector is not removable without destruction.
Thermals:
After 1 Minute
After 2 Minutes
After 5 Minutes
After that, the temperature stays the same.
Lux and CRI measurements:
At minimum setting from 1m away
At maximum setting from 1m away
The DUV is 0.0067
After heating up, the Lux drop to roughtly 55%
I somewhat don’t know how to hold this light in my hand. As you can see, it’s tiny (my hands are not small, though), but if I hold it so that I can use the switch, I cannot use the rotating bit, and the other way around it’s the same. I can change the brightness but can’t use the switch.
And a comparison to some other small flashlights and batteries.
Left to right: 14500 battery, Wuben G5, Sofirn SC13A, 18650 battery, Wurkkos TS10, Acebeam Pokelit, Convoy T3
So, my Conclusion:
For me this light is absolutely perfect if you need to hold a light with your mouth. It is so much better than a round light for that and we all know that you need to use a flashlight for that every now and then. The swivel-head ensures a great visibility which makes it even better for that.
Iit is also nice for use in somewhat crammed machinery since it is small, relatively bright and has a strong magnet. The clip makes it possible to have in on the brim of a cap as well.
For my big hands, this is not a flashlight that I would choose for a long walk or somewhere else where I would have to hold it in my hands for a longer time. But I think a light like this is not made or bought for that.
