Finding a mcpcb for an XR-E seems to be pretty rare. I found a 14mm in the link below, really could use 16mm, but I have never heard of the site and not sure if they even deal with the U.S… I came across one mounted to a mt-g, but I think the foot print is slightly different. Anyone know where or if i can get one anywhere else?
eeehh, I've got a bucketload of XR-E mcpcb's, usually with the XR-E still on it, and so have many others on this forum. So find some BLF-member nearby and ask him/her to send some to you? :-)
XRE doesn’t need an mcpcb. Just scratch a square the right size on a copper or brass disc and pretin that. Sand off the +/- pads from the bottom and solder the wires directly to the top of the substrate after reflowing it to the disc. The knife ridges will restrict the solder and keep the led on your pad.
Wait a minute, am I more different than others over here?: every sk68 clone and many other budget lights that enter the house comes with a xre on a (usually 16mm) mcpcb that gets immediately tossed in the spare leds box to make room for a more modern led. There must be others that have a box full of them??
I don’t generally buy loaded lights. The exceptions are all BLF GB’s(A8, Saber 1A, Mini01, X6). Most of the XRE’s I have were purchased as 5 packs and placed on cutter 3-up series boards modded to parallel. One I put into a Utilitech AAA using the method I described above. I think maybe Bort has it. The only two I have on a pcb are UV LEDs.
Was looking for a thicker copper, such as a SinkPad or noctigon. If the mt-g2 pad will work, ill definitely try that then. I gotta order a couple more things from mountain electronics anyway. No need to send me anything, although I appreciate the offer from all.
