Taking the driver out from Convoy T2 and put it into Fenix HL23 headlamp.
The headlamp’s driver was damaged some months ago and now it has new soul — and become a twisty headlamp.

And for the T2, since it’s using 17mm driver, I installed this driver from FT and run it with 14500.
Not a nice driver for sure (it has delay in operation) but it works.

I’m seriously thinking about feeding my D4S tube to a Grizzly…

I’ve been having some fun with the 3v XHP50.2. I flowed this one onto the MCPCB myself which I normally don’t do. Notice some odd color on moonlight. Is this normal? My other XHP50.2 light is 6v and doesn’t go as low so I can’t really compare them.

I built and installed the lighted switch board for my HC30 mod. It has had the a TA driver running anduril (as FET+1 for now, till I get more of the good 7135’s), just the SW board is new from this weekend and that’s a tail clicky clear SW boot cut way down to fit.

Very cool. Not too many headlamp mods happening, it seems. Easy to take apart? Is the driver just pressed in? Was it glued? Is that one of the new lighted boards from MtnE?

The sanded down 22mm TA driver is pressed in (stock driver PCB was glued but threads wernt). Overall pretty easy to mod.

The switch board is my own design, it’s 10.3mm. BTW oshpark sticker 0×19 is the best one I’ve ever seen! This is V2, originally V1 had 4 led’s and a leadless switch from sparkfun but it turned out to be super weak and I think the reflow heat was causing them to fail prematurely, I went through all 5 switches I had, each would last a few days after being soldered on. Dumped the leadless switch for this more common one, deleted 2 LED’s and moved the resistor to the back and these boards are G2G.

Next on my bench is my ArmyTek tiara C1, gonna give it the same treatment (hopefully light shines through its yellow boot).

FW3A – emitter and optic swap. Beam is pretty similar to the original beam, but maybe tiny bit tighter and has a slightly warmer tint.

  • Emitters: XPL HI: two 3D and one 5D.
  • Optic: polished the frosting off 10511 optic using jeweler’s rouge and a soft cloth.

Doesn’t it have a starburst spill?

A little bit. I haven’t checked to see if it’s any more than the frosted 10511 though. Any petals in the spill are still far less than with 10507 optic.

Nope. I don’t use that very often.

Cut a bit of spare MDF, put leather on it, then loaded the strop with red compound (sold as 1K grit on AliExpress).
This is a compact strop for smaller knives and more for on-to-go use in a backpack.
Need to heat up the compound more to make the wax sticky.

This is also the first time I used Shoe Goo as the binding agent between leather and MDF, it is superior to the glues I have tried before!

Soldered up and programmed a new “smart” tailcap today; this one is for 14500 lights. Swapped out a friend’s Booster Tail for this one since he always uses his Sofirn SF14 with li-ions (with AA/NiMH the flashlight will still work of course, just not the tailcap now). It has 6 LEDs and uses them to display battery status.

First battery in the video was at 4.07 V, the second was at 3.55 V.

Did another Q8 bypass today. I always like how these turn out since there is a nice hole to feed the wire through and solder from the back. They have really good flexibility this way and just look nice and clean.
