Aha, so they use a FET driver.
But is it CC or DD ?

I hope to see some SBT-90.2 emitter testing soon.
Wondering about the Vf, of course.
Can’t imagine it’s not closer to 4 Volts at such crazy currents, although Luminus’ other recent LEDs do have a low Vf.

The CCT of Luminus’ low CRI LEDs is unfortunately rather high…
I’ll consider getting a SBT-90.2 when 5000K or lower is available.
Still interesting though for an aspheric with a Wavien collar (which brings down the CCT)

For my stock 1st batch GT i’m waiting for 5000K or lower SST-70.
Should be an easy modification.

I dont have any measuring equipment, and I’m not necessarily a CRI snob, but do appreciate high cri and slightly whiter than incandescent tint when I can get it in a light form factor that fits my needs. That said, the sbt90.2 in my K75 has a quite nice tint for a coolish white, especially on the brighter modes. I’d guess it to be about 5400 to 5600k on turbo. I’m usually pretty sensitive to green and I was pleasantly suprised how creamy white the output was when I first turned it on.

I dont know if the bin is different than the sbt90.2 in my NI40 but it seems to be less prone to green on lower levels..maybe one is FET pwm driven and the other is CC. I’m sure that would make a difference. I know xpl2s look better (at least to me) when fet pwm driven.

Here are measurements for the Acebeam K75 and Nightwatch NI40
The SBT90.2 is on the greenish side except at very high output levels where tint drops below BBL (negative DUV). Tint looks excellent once it gets below BBL.

One benefit of the FET driver in the GT90 is that once you get past the low modes and the main FET kicks in, the tint should improve to basically the same as the turbo tint for the rest of the ramp.

I see that it is another company ready to make a new light, quite a beast, with the same SBT-90.2 led,but even bigger reflector than the BLF-G. Astrolux.

I had one incident with European hare once when testing Nitecore HC30 on a field. Not sure why but that hare decided to start running towards my light when I was just standing still and I was sure it was going to attack or do something else crazy, but then it noticed me in about two meters away, made hissing sound jumping in the air freaking out, turning immediately around and running even faster away.

Were you in the Caer Bennog area? Silly

From the K75 Driver thread, it’s been measured to run around 3.5V on turbo (~29A). So very low indeed.

That is indeed low.
Not really worth it to run it on an expensive (because very high current) buck driver then.

Low efficiency LED though.
50 Lumen per Watt or something..

Indeed, and then the fact that it draws almost 30A, you need jumpstart cables for it Wink

Get the original BLF version. Copycat Astrolux just produces cheaper examples.

Should be possible to drive it with a L4P driver with 2 or 3 extra FETs on the output and a same amount of sense resistors stacked on it.

Still, green tint or not, that’s not that important.
My objection, based on what i’ve seen in Matt VoB’s video, is the cold CCT.
The blueish beam makes it quite hard to see what you’re actually shining on.

I was not in the Group Buy but just received my light. It’s a throw beast and the tint runs cool. I have to say for my purposes the GT70 is still my favorite due to the amount of spill that I can see but I look forward to opening up the GT90 in longer areas to see how far I can push it.

Where on Neal’s website I can put the code (for the Group buy). I didn’t find any option to use the code… Is the Group buy already closed? (Already contacted Neal, waiting for his answer)

You might need to use the desktop version of the site? I have never tried to use the mobile version but on the desktop it has a promo code box during checkout.

The beam shots in the video look great, but how long will it run on turbo? Is it like 30 sec max or around that?

As he says in the video, you can disable the thermal control (or raise the temperature much higher then factory) and it will never step down from turbo.

At some point in the video he compares the lights at 15 minutes of runtime and the GT90 has much better output.

Now days I tend to disable thermal control on lights that only I use, I only leave it on on lights that others might use.

You guys aren’t gonna believe what I’m looking at right now….4 days from Hong Kong to Texas.

And to think the mfo4s I paid for from bangOK almost a month ago is still wandering around the earth.

THANKS NEAL! And Ace, and everyone else who played a part in this

Only 100 pcs for a BLF GB, to me, is a slap in the face to the forums. With as much support as this forum has given lumintop, id expect a little more opportunity for forum members to get a GB price. I’m not necessarily interested in this light, I’m holding out for the GT4. BUT, with the little information on it and no indication of this project even before release, I have to question whether lumintop is really interested in workin on BLF projects anymore. Maybe it’s time another manufacturer steps up and takes the lead on future forum projects of the such.

The 100 lights is not by choice, it is by necessity due to VERY limited supply of the SBT-90.2 LED’s. It took them months to get these 100 LED’s. (big part of why I refused to start the GB months ago when they first wanted me too, I wanted to make sure they had the parts before going live).

They said if they can get more LED’s at the same price then they can sell more at the GB price but they do not know how much the next batch of LED’s will cost right now or when they will get them.
