Coast HP550 at Costco for $49

Not sure if it is a deal or not but I am a sucker for stuff at Costco. It was $49.

at $49 so theyā€™ll end up blowing them out. 8)

Post Note: Well I decided not to wait after handling one. See Posts 21 & 23. Itā€™s too good to pass up for a coupon that may not materialize. If thereā€™s a coupon someday Iā€™ll buy another one as a gift or whatever. Either way I win.

Let us know how it performs.

Please do up a review when you get er

Well, I guess at least you wonā€™t have to worry about trying to scare up lithium batteries out in the sticks should your batteries go dead! And if you have a pile of Duraloops laying around (like I do), then using 9 AA batteries is not a HUGE problem. On the other hand, using 9 AA batteries sure doesnā€™t make it easy to buy batteries for the thing. And, with rechargeables, it will require THREE chargers unless you want to wait HOURS for all of these batteries to charge.

9 batteries? woo wee, lol

Whoa - where did you get that? Which Costco? Thatā€™s a pretty good runtime for 9 AAs at 1000 lumens.

I keep writing on the in-store suggestion cards to stock Fenix flashlights - maybe someone saw that got this?

Also - what is the free offer on the back all about?

Beamshots of flood and throw would be much appreciated,

They must have accidentally had the light meter set to chinese-lumens.

Just a guess

Nice! That light sounds like an Old-Lumens dream come true! Factory XM-L run on AA cells.

I'm actually interested to see how well their focusing technology works with an XM-L in comparison to other FTT XM-L lights we've used.

I think a few of the new Led Lenser all use XM-Lā€™s too.

I found it at the Costco in Coeur dā€™Alene Idaho. I have not opened the package yet. It was intended as a Christmas present to me but I may have to open it sooner just for yā€™all.

:santa:

I showed this to a buddy and he called Coast - they said:

- this is a Costco exclusive

- did not know for how long Costco would stock it

- there would be no official information on the Coast website on this light

- it will not take 14500 lithiums

- the red ring at the end does not illuminate

- it is making its way through the Costco distribution (NY Costcos should have it in two weeks)

  • the free offer as seen on the back is for the G10

This looks like a great alternative to the TK41/TK45!

Weā€™ll see about that. But I guess the one good thing about this light is at least itā€™s fairly cheap. So if it turns out to be a dud, then itā€™s not like you dropped a huge amount of cash on the thing. Even though Iā€™ve had my issues with Coastā€™s battery holders, I figure that, at $49 for a 1000 lumen light, itā€™s worth taking a chance on. Unlike the TK41, I can actually afford to go wrong with this one.

Now what I would REALLY like to see is this light available as a D cell light. I would MUCH rather have the simplicity and runtime of D cells. Not to mention NO BATTERY HOLDER. Because with the exception of battery holders, Coast lights have generally been pretty good to me.

thanks for sharing with us
i really like that but doubt it will make it to Costco-UK
the flashlight choice on the shelf over here is pretty poor

you canā€™t see the wide angle. Your eyes can though, easily. It should be good for walking and then you can zoom in to see what beady little eyes are attached to.
