I’ve been playing around with some other ideas for X6R builds. As it turns out I have a fondness for this light and want to build many different versions of it.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot guarantee any of this will actually work. Currently it’s all work in progress, anybody is welcome to try them. Also all credit for the boards must go to PD68 as he did all the initial work designing them.

Firstly a version with independent PWM channels for White and Red outputs. I have tweaked some firmware to fit as well. Starts on low white and short presses will increase, when at turbo short press will go back to low white. Med presses will go back from turbo all the way to low white then into the red modes, red on and then red beacon. To exit red modes long press will go back to low white or short presses will move back up to low white.

Firmware

Last we have a low batt indicator LED. Idea taken from the ToyKeeper’s Ferrero_Rocher firmware. This board only has one PWM out through the FET. The 7135 channel has been replaced with the indicator LED.

Yikes, think I got one on order from the Ali store, shipped on 10/22. Tracking # shows shipped out of China today on 17track.net. USPS still knows nothing bout it.

This is bad if we can't get any more... Cry

I hope it returns. What worries me is Banggood not saying it’s out of stock or anything, but item link is dead. Reviews are still there, but light is 404.

I checked my pm's - krono never got back to me, so not sure if Neal of BG ever got back to him. I pinged krono again just now in a pm.

These prices are almost as bad as A6 for $80 on Amazon. And even if I wanted to pay that kind of money, none of those places will ship to my country.
I have just sent email to Banggood customer support and Aliexpress seller, hope they respond. And if somehow Ali store gets them back in stock, it’s possible there will be some 11.11 discount.

EE lights will no longer be sold through BG :~

No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.

Do we have a contact at EE that can let us know of a supplier?

Maybe replacements on the way? I know they said they were working on an “X5R”

I live amongst the cornfields of Ohio, with forest 50ft. from the house. I’m trying to decide between X6R or the GB-LuckySun BLF D80-SE. What would you suggest?

I’d say the D80 will slightly outperform the x6r. I personally prefer the aesthetics of the x6r better, and it has a built in charger. If you already have a quality charger, I’d go with the luckysun, but it’s very close.

The XR6 has XM-L2. How does the XM-L U2-equipped D80 light outperform this?

Aliexpress seller told me there will be no 11.11 discount, so if you want to get it, now is the time.

Interesting decision... The X6R is factory stock, while the D80-SE is like a modded, customized light. Though the X6R is quality through-out and performs well for typical stock lights and it's size/price, it's not gonna have blazing high amps and performance out of the box, but the D80 will. Physically for beam pattern and throw, they are extremely close, and both offer neutral tint options.

But do consider the D80 group buy is the longest GB ever - over 9 months and counting, though it seems like an end to it is getting close. If you don't mind the wait, the D80 is a great deal for a high powered light - not tremendous throw, but very good for it's size I'd imagine. The X6R is the same reflector as the X6 and is very well proven to be a good thrower for it's size.

Joe - the D80 SE will have a copper MCPCB DTP, plus higher amps than a stock X6R (3A vs. 4-5A), so it will blow away the X6R out of the box on a good cell. Update: I should qualify this better. A stock X6R I measured at 986 lumens @30 secs, while that D80 SE will be in the realm of 1300-1500 I'm guessing? Dale probably has posted #'s on the samples. Now, the difference between 1000 and 1400 lumens is debateable -- how noticeable is it really, compared to the shorter runtimes you will get at those hi lumens and hi amps, and also those 1400 lumens will drop steadily as the cell drops, which will not be nearly as bad in a stock X6R.

Joe, if we were talking about a stock D80, it wouldn’t compare to the X6R overall, but the BLF D80 is a different story.

Does the spacer (made by nitro) for the X6 works on the X6R?

I’ve been watching X6R mods for a long time I think it’s time to start with mine.

What brand/model of protected cells can fit this light?

pilotdog68 wrote:
it doesn’t work with protected 26f’s, but it does with protected 30b’s. The 26f’s are just a micrometer too long. Which is fine because I always use protected 30b’s in lights with built-in charging.

Pilotdog, I don’t own either of the cells you mentioned but looking at the specs on them they appear to be the same size, I’m sure there’s a variance between some suppliers/resellers depending on what board was put in them. If you got a minute could you measure please yours and post the lengths.

Here’s the lengths listed for all protected 18650 cells from MTN Electronics:
(from shortest to longest)

MH1………..68.6mm (EWA)
26F…………69.0mm (EWA)
30B…………69.0mm
18650GA…..69.0mm (EWA)
MJ1…………69.2mm (EWA)
18650B…….69.5mm
18650PF……69.6mm (EWA)

Listed lengths for Keepower brand from Illumn.com:

26F…………68.90mm
MJ1…………68.90mm
18650GA…..68.90mm

I’m a bit skeptical that the Keeppowers at Illumn are all the same size, but maybe?
-

I have some 18650GA in transit but I haven’t ordered the lights yet. I’d like to have the cell that fits ready when they arrive as I’m planning on gifting one of them.
