Best 26650 (or even 18650) For High Current & Maintaining Voltage

Thanks for chiming in Tom! So is Ric the only one selling those 4200mAh ones? And what about in comparison to the KK 4000mAh INR? Is the ICR better than the INR? I have an 4000mAh INR. Is it even worth me buying the 4200 ICR or is the difference negligible?

For some reason, I haven't seen the 4200's sold anywhere else. The ICR's are superior to the INR's - I, unfortunately, found that out after buying a couple of INR's. HKJ tested both, so you can run his comparison tool to see the differences, or compare his test results. The differences are measurable on the linear drive, over-driven XM-L2 single 26650 cell lights. So I got the KK INR, KK ICR (4000 and 4200), MNKE IMR, and TF 5000's. You could debate whether the $10.50 per cell for the 4200 is worth it, compared to FT's price of $15.76/pair of the 4000's. The 4200 is only available in unprotected flat top from Ric.

For example, the J18 light I mod'ed with swapping in the IOS driver got 5,000 lumens on 3 TF 5000's, and one day DayLighter was over, he popped in 3 KK ICR's, and we measured 5,500 lumens. So, unfortunately I lost that light to DayLighter - .

INR: http://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/King%20Kong%20INR26650E%204000mAh%20(Gold)%20UK.html

Pretty much across the board, the ICR is better.

Thanks Tom. I have a little while to decide which I'll buy.

I found a lower resistance (0.02 ohms) tested 26650 cell done by HKJ, but doesn't seem relevant to flashlights: http://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/A123%2026650%202500mAh%20(Green)%20UK.html. Incredibly, this cell does well for a 30A draw. HKJ says it can deliver 120A!

Update: Just found this 26650: http://www.hkequipment.net/?sp=&p=6&cat2=153&cat1=60&cat0=2&id=1771&cat1=60&cat0=2&new=&more=pro_new&s=fe7b35b7da325d5759abacdcfa31e7bd&lang=en

It looks incredible with a 50A rating, $13 a cell though....

KK cells are obviously not 4000mAh only, the labels have changed along the time. Their manufacturing process does not seem so tight like other compnies you can see cell to cells variation at high current in HKJ review.

The 123A's low voltage is definitely not good for XM-Ls over 3A.

The best way to tell me about batteries is a PM or email, the mail must include a link to a shop that ships to EU.

It will often take between one and two months, before I can publish a test.

I say it is rated for 120A, some other people says it can deliver considerable more.

This battery is on my to do list, but I am only going to test it up to 30A.

That Sony was mentioned. I'm anxious to see HKJ's review and comparison to the King Kongs and others.

Thanks HKJ!! Not sure now if it's worth testing the 4200's if it's basically the same cell as the 4000, as HikeLite is implying. That SONY cell though sounds pretty interesting.

I'm also very curious about the Moli 26700 IMR’s cells ImA4Wheelr is talking about. Wondering if the Milwaukee M18 pack is equal to the V18?? Hoping the M18 has the Moli 26700s in it?? because I just placed bids on 2 of the M18's - can't find V18's at that price mentioned. I am definitely getting more into 26650 cell flashlights and need to know what the best options are for the problematic XM-L2's on copper with linear drivers.

HKequipment have a 26650 advertised as being able to deliver 50A at 12.99 a pop:

Sony SE US26650VT 26650 50A 20C

Apologies if this has already been mentioned on the thread.

I think your mention is the third time now :) . It's ok.

Alright! 3rd prize.

Oh well - won the M18 pack on eBay, and did more research and it appears the pack is 10 Samsung 18650's, but if they are 20Q or 20R's, I'd be happy because I got it for $33 w/shipping, so Samsung INR's at $3.30 each is a pretty good deal.

My understanding is that the 3Ah V18 and V28 packs have the IMR26700A’s. I can confirm that the 3 V18’s I have have them (or should I say had them). I read some where that certain same rated Rigid packs do too, but I don’t recall the model. Read it in an old post in some RC forum.

I have two Foursevens 26650s that I know nothing about. I haven’t been able to find a review of any kind on them anywhere.

Thanks for that. Looks like I'll find out 'cause I just ordered a few. Those moli 26700 cells in the tool packs are on eBay as well but they're in paper wrappers - just need some heat shrink to re-wrap them.

Sounds like you’re under the impression that the what you ordered is the IMR-26700A. They are not the same cell. The “paper” wrapped ones from the tool packs are the 40A rated cells. You can’t buy those loose. At least not that I know of.

A side note, I prefer to keep the cardboard sleeve/wrapper. It is much sturdier than shrink wrap and will probably absorb leakage should one occur. The also give a degree of cushioning. Some of my lights like the Torchlite (the one the people have been putting MG-T2’s in) can take the cells with the wrappers. The also feel safer when I throw them in a SRK.

No. I ordered the green 26650C cells in shrink wrap. The 700s are too long for my application. You can buy the 700s loose here http://www.ebay.ca/itm/MOLI-IMR-26700A-Rechargeable-Battery-2900MAH-IMR-2670-for-Power-Tools-Canada-/261217203720?pt=US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item3cd1c23608

I see. Sorry for misunderstanding you. Nice find. I’ve been looking for loose cells with no luck.

Sorry for being so short. I need learn not to post before I've had my coffee...

No problem bro. Didn’t take that way. I try to not read tone in postings as it is easy to misinterpret a stranger’s quickly written text response.

EDIT: I guess I gave up a long time ago and didn’t think they would be available as loose cells. There are several sellers here in the US. If they fit your light, they are pretty awesome. I don’t have measuring equipment, but I can tell you my lights have higher tail current readings and are brighter with them.
