The light RacerR86 linked to seems to be a decent mod host. Nothing wrong in that, and I appreciate hearing mod ideas for it (or any other light for that matter).
I started working on this GB when another member brought this light into my attention, and I instantly saw the potential: Powerful driver (7000lm with XML version as stock), pretty good design, and possibility for budget friendly price. On the other hand, it has some flaws and possibilities to improve.. So trying to iron out those flaws was considered to be a good idea, or at least worth trying => if we manage to make this happen, also the non-modders can enjoy a >7000lm light with usable lower modes (spacing, PWM).
Interested in the model 18sixfifty reviewed, with XML2s. No XML2s is not a dealbreaker, but it must be the same or better driver and output light like the one 18sixfifty reviewed from lightscastle, I have no interest in at all otherwise.
Was the reflector the same as this one 18sixfifty? I seem to recall the review with a different reflector, indicating this may be a different light?
The GB preparation is going forward. The manufacturer is willing to make changes (at least adjust modes and fix the mode memory) if we take enough lights. Initially we have discussed the limit being 20pcs, maybe 50pcs, depending on our requirements..
I think four modes with wide spacing would be good compromise. Three is too little, five is too much - at least for me. I don't like the KD 5-mode driver, as the modes are too near to each other.
Maybe something like 1%->15%->50%->100% (100lm->1000lm->3500lm->7000lm)
Another thing is that we will probably go for L2 version. It's won't be that much more expensive.
Anyways, the negotiations will continue and I'll keep you updated. :)
Interested. Please add me to the list. I note that the same claimed make and model number is also listed by FastTech with XM-L2 LEDs and a $1.30 lower normal price.
I have purchased from them with good luck so far. Any dealer preferences among members? Could negotiations by _ the _ with both sellers give a advantage regarding price or features?
Personally I would prefer XM-L2 LEDs and a modified UI that includes a <1% low output mode and no strobe or SOS. Four or 5 levels with level below High set for max continuous output and include a turbo timer and battery under voltage protection.
Negotiating with different dealers but with same manufacturer would be quite tricky and lead to severe misunderstandings => I'd prefer keep negotiating with Gearbest. Dora has done fantastic job here so far. :)

Would be nice, but given the time constraints, most probably won't happen.
Unprotected cells only? I was under the impression that multi cell lights needed to use protected cells only. Please help me out here. From the review of this light, “I could not run this light on protected batteries. The amp drain was so high that it popped the protection. I would really only recommend this light for really high quality high amp batteries”. Thanks.
I know that there is a lot of group buy fatigue but I still can’t believe there isn’t more interest in this deal. I think maybe people would really have to have owned as many multi-emitter lights as I have to really get how powerful this light is. Nothing else stock comes close to this light that I know of. Maybe there are some out there for big bucks but certainly not anything in this price range.
XM-L2 with good mode spacing would make this light pretty much unbeatable for a super flooder. Nothing short of a modded light is going to come close to it and not many of them. Also there is room left for people like me to mod on it. De-dome some of the emitters for better tint and some extra throw. But really if what you are looking for is simply a wall of light this is it.
Also there is an advantage of using 12 emitters or even more over 7 or 9. It’s that with more emitters they are running less amps to get the same light. This will run cooler and more efficiently.
I have owned most of the larger plunger style multi-emitters and stock they just don’t come close to this light. Not even the 15x plunger lights.
I'm still interested, but if this GB and the K40M kicked off at the same time, I'd buy the K40M and not this unless the GB stayed open for a while. Like you said, there's group buy fatigue, and I can't buy as quickly as members here can arrange group buys.
Edit: K40M GB has started. Hopefully this group buy doesn't start for a while.
It was only last year I read in awe at the numbers people were making with an AK-90 and a Hyberboost driver. Then there was the TR-J18 and beast driver fiasco. Now this light comes stock with 7000lm, XML2 and custom mode spacing. Anyone with a 3 cell YEZL can buy this and have the best budget thrower and flooder for $100. Really hope this gets of the ground, and thanks the for organizing this one!
I am still waiting to hear what we are actually getting in the way of output modes and mode spacing and any other custom light details. If the UI has it come on in max output mode at every turn-on then it is a turn-off for me. A light that always starts at 7000 Lumens is ridiculous and possibly not even safe for use around others. If this starts at Maximum I will wait for the RMM J20 customized monster. A “next mode” memory not too much better IMO.
having just joined and noticed the excelent deal gearbest did on the bt-c3100 charger. sadly i missed that and paid them 54$ for one,but i gave them my dough still!!! £6 more than on ebay.
If they keep doing good group buys i will always come back to their site and buy other stuff if reasonably competetively priced.
