I’m not even sure how you would charge 2S (8.4v) from a 5v micro USB. If possible at all, it would need a boost circuit somehow, and balancing contacts I would think. And even if you had a high powered USB power supply giving 10w, that will take forever to charge 26650’s.
Also, even if you don’t have batteries, the all-in-cost for a basic set-up would be around $80 instead of $100
With today’s technology in communications anyone with little capital and knowledge can produce produce reviews and or video’s that will call for the end reader or viewer to be attentive on the quality and expertise of these reviews.
It is fine to give a ‘thumbs down’ about a review or comment, but I hope not to see people banned for making opposing points of view.
I was banned last week from CandlePowerForum for expressing a point of view and not willing to ‘sit on my hands’ and not post.
The exchange of differnt points of view is what in the end makes for a better informed understanding.

Umm no…sorry no disrespect but this guy shouldn’t have a opinion at all. Should just shut his mouth, it’s om
K you don’t have to be pc. I bought a basketball goal last month it didn’t come with a ball, I’m pissed yet it clearly states I need a ball with the goal on the box and there’s no manual on how to use the basketball.
I’m pissed cause the diesel I just bought needs ‘special’ fluid or my car doesn’t run at all, even though it clearly states before I bought the car it needs def to run. It also didn’t come with a manual to show me how to fill up the tank.
I bought a pool table and was so ready to play but wtf!!?? It didn’t come with the ‘tools’ that you need to play. Apparently it needs balls cues etc. I didn’t know that even though it says so on the box. It also didn’t come with a manual.
Well, he does have some valid points for “his” audience. If you go out and buy something with very little knowledge about what you are buying what do you expect?
To complain that his current charger doesn’t fit the batteries is absurd as well as having to buy the larger 26650’s. It’s like buying a race car and complaining you need racing fuel to use it.
Even with a charger and batteries, it’s still a heck of a lot less than his fav the ThruNite TN40.
We are probably giving him to much attention anyhow with all of the comments and views! Let’s focus on promoting someone who is fair at reviewing one of these instead of a prepper.
Sadly this is exactly the case. The only thing negative you can do to the video is a thumbs down. Everything else simply increases the videos popularity.
It falls under the old “any publicity is good publicity”
I live in socal, chances are shit happening here (earthquake) is much much greater than him (lol emp bomb). I didn’t even watch his review, I already know his channel. You would be raving about the TN40 if you got a $250 from the manufacturer. Truth is he’s reviewing a bunch of shit he got for a discount or free on a channel yes receiving revenues from while at the same time being a kid and playing with gadgets. He will say whatever to continue this. It’s a game yo. Saying all that i also have about a 7 day supply of food and water because I was stuck out for two days last year and it sucked.
I have almost as big a charger collection as I do lights and cells. Finding the right one, the one that terminates at 4.21V for a IMR cell, is not really as easy as you might would think. I’ve got chargers here that stop at 4.16V, and I’ve one that will charge low internal resistance cells to 4.25V! Yikes! Those really look good for the output ratings on a new build though! lol
Point is, if all you have is the internal charger built into a light then you are stuck with whatever charge rate they offer and you can’t charge a back-up cell while using the light. So you have light downtime while it plays charger. 26650 cells can take a LONG time to charge, even with a top charger at 1A charge rate. Most built in or on board USB chargers work in the 600mA area, or the one’s I’ve seen do, that means your light is down for a very long time indeed if you employ 5200mAh 26650’s!
We all know that Convoy has one of the best anodize finishes to be found. Amongst the top build quality levels of any light. And a seriously dedicated individual standing behind them. And then there’s jdub too! lol
How can you go wrong with a Convoy? (and Burt and Frog? )
I thought about commenting on that too. He’s talking about it being a negative because of the added cost yet even if you buy 2 cells and a good charger not only are you still well under $100 you’re also getting one of what is arguably the best quality lumen-per-dollar value lights out there yet he doesn’t recommend it because “you gotta consider value”. :person_facepalming:
If the Convoy L6 doesn’t represent good value then I need to rethink a lot of things…
I think it’s pretty well summed up when we say that this guy simply doesn’t understand flashlights. I would think that part of any good “disaster preparedness” plan would include quality flashlights and chargers of many of which many double as portable charging devices for multiple other devices?
The part of his review that I do agree with is when he says “The flashlight guys…You guys are a different breed altogether”. That we are! Proud of it sir! Even there, he’s only telling half the story…there are “girls” among us “guys” too.
Thats exactly why I went with a hobby charger from the start. I am picky about how my cells charge and it is the only way for me to have exact control over all the fine details.
Plus from a preppers point of view, it will charge anything you may run into and works off a standard 12v system. So it is the ultimate charging system for a prepper.
Like I said this guy is a joke. Just a grown ass man child playing with free/discounted shit on YouTube. His channel is for entertainment only (or for us to clown him). You guys make good points, he’s gona listen to his subscribers and please them so he can get likes and continue receiving free shit to make his 30lb edc keychain 40lbs.
Am I the only one who thinks preppers will be the first to go in the event of societal collapse? The first desperate group who sees them walking around with their sweet looking tac pack will rob them blind and possibly more.
I would do that if I lived in a rural area. I would just load up my guns and prey no one attempts to break into my house. If they do, I’m ready for them. I keep large stock of ammo. Plus, I’m well stocked with emergency food and water. I’d at least be able to survive for awhile. It’s scary thinking about this stuff.
I measured and tried the single cell ring design L2 tube on my L6 both with Liitokala 26650 and purple 26350-s
The tube lenth: 71,05mm
Liitokala 26650 length: 65,09mm
Two 26350 length together: 69,63mm
Liitokala 26650 in:
Two 26350 in:
I putted on the tailcap just to the spring touch the battery. With the Liitokala from that position I can press down the tailcap 3 mm against spring to touch the tube.
Do the same with 26350-s and with them I can prass down tailcap 7,5mm to touch the tube.
Then when the tailcap touched the tube with the threads you press more 6,7mm on the springs with twisting all the way tigth.
So in my opinion we can easily add 3 or 4mm to the tube without any problem with shorter 26650s in L2, and with that you can put more than 70mm protected cells too to a single cell L2. And will be no problem for an L6 with short tube and 26350s
I tried hard to write a reply to his review and be nice and not insult him too badly. But I just couldn’t do it so I finally gave up. In the end I just gave him a thumbs down.
There are morons like that reviewing all sorts of things that they have no knowledge of on YouTube. Sometimes they are folks who are expected to have the knowledge and that’s the worst type of review… where someone with built-in credibility clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
The part that got me most was that he couldn’t figure out that by increasing the girth of 18650s he could use them in the light. Really? What kind of prepper is that STUPID!!? (I know, the kind that can only start a fire with matches, aka a dead prepper.)
I almost suggested to him that he make his way to my place because about the time that he got here I might need resupply, so bring lots of stuff, ’cause he wouldn’t be needing it.
