Lucky dog, I keep wanting to get a clear one to try an XHP35 and/or an XP-L hi in but can’t justify the cost at this point seeing as I already have an L6, S70 and like 10 SRK’s floating around.
Just to be clear… :person_facepalming: these aren’t all mine, one right now is spoken for, the other 2 are going to go fast when I get done with them. The 2 bare L6’s are mine, because I pestered and pleaded, with the top guy’s!! :person_facepalming:
I build special machines, production CNC’s and very BIG machines and never got to work in our Lathe division (even though I have serviced a few) so the machining process and part handling intrigued me. I always wanted a just off the machine torch, specially the Convoy L2/L6. And let me tell you Simon’s machining is just outstanding, how he dose it for this kind of money is truly amazing! He is the MAN!!!
I feel we are very blessed to have a guy like Simon, who himself is a self professed Flash-o-holic in our group of maniacs, he tries his best to take idea’s and suggestion’s thru and from Jared and makes them a reality that we can hold in our hand!! It don’t get better than this!
As far as a longer battery tube to support the 26700/ 2x26350 might want to put a Interest Poll up, to see if it is plausible? I put up a few times, links to the Copper crush washer (seals) 2mmx26.5mmx30-31mm, that will work in extending the tube out from the head and the battery cap, for up to 4mm of length. The 2x26350 and 26700’s aren’t really that popular in the outside world, just ours, so it might not be cost effective just for a few of us? Remember Simon is really busy with the Business, Family, and other new and innovative projects coming in the future. Just my take on things, subject to change in a moments notice! :+1:
You say that these UCLp are better from the glass equivalents?
I ask, because giorgoskok, modded a C8 for me,and as he told me he succeeded 173Kcd with a old style XP-G2 and a special glass between others. So,I ask if these plastics are better from all the coated glasses around.
You might look at flashlight lens.com and use their GLASS UCL lens… we have gone to these almost completely for our customers. Great lens. I am not affiliated with them…just use their lenses.
I been known to drop them, some from tree stands, and the lens broke shattered scratching the heck out of my reflector, I use the UCLp lenses for my working lights and a few back up shelf queens, now I never have to worry about it again! Just might have to change to a thicker or thinner o-ring depending on the thickness of the stock lens and if the bezel has any extra travel to go with?
I’m glad to see the L6 fan club growing. I like the YouTube video review green_comet posted. It’s long but it’s got a lot of info and some good comparisons to give people a feel for what the L6 is all about in real use. :+1:
The pictures of the clear L6 are making me jealous! Mine’s not here yet.
I agree with everything that’s been said about getting a replacement lens. For a direct replacement contact Simon through his Aliexpress store. The Convoy AR coated lenses are very good but if you are willing to spend a few extra dollars you simply cannot get better than the UCL and UCLp lenses. They set the standard for extreme clarity and light transmittance. The UCL (glass) lenses will give you the ultimate in clarity at 98-99% while the UCLp (acrylic) is only a fraction less clear at 97% but with the added durability of being extremely shatter resistant. I don’t recall who, but someone tested the Convoy AR coated glass in the L2 against UCL it showed the UCL allowed a few more lumens from the same build though not by a huge margin. I took the fact that the Convoy AR glass was even close in comparison as a big compliment to Simon’s work.
The problem I’ve had with plastic lenses in the past have been with bubbling after long runtimes, but with different lights (quartz halogen). Is that not a problem with LED lights? I have to agree that the shatter resistance has huge benefits. It’s all tradeoffs… give up this to get that.
