Coronavirus **personal experiences** thread

“0 died from CoronaVirus”? Quit spreading fake news. You don’t know what you’re talking about and this shows it. This is WORSE than the usual flu. It’s not as deadly as SARS on average, but it’s much more virulent. However, the elderly are at serious risk. And infected people are asymptomatic for a VERY long time, 14 to 28 days. You become contagious after a handful of days, without symptoms. That’s the problem. So don’t downplay this. It’s irresponsible to do so! :rage: :rage: :rage:

The problem here is that right off he says something that isn’t quite right. Anthropomorphic to say it “wants”, because it’s not alive. NOT an organism.

Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg : “Every new year worldwide we have new types of viruses, because the viruses have to change themselves. If the same viruses just came again in the next year, our immune system would recognize them, so they would not be able to make us sick or to multiply—which is what they want. So they regularly have to change a bit and that’s why we have new variants of these viruses every year.”

This isn’t quite true. Viruses can mutate as they replicate in different hosts. Propagation depends upon the immune systems. If a variant is dealt with by the immune system, it fails. It’s the mutations where the immune system can’t handle it that’s the problem. It can go from one person to the next, and if the host who couldn’t combat it is a low percentage, then the virus can’t propagate quickly & will likely die. It’s the “right” combination of mutation whereby a virus hits a sweet spot of NO IMMUNITY. And that’s what becomes an epidemic and then a pandemic.

The next issue is the degree of infection. The common cold is a virus, in the “corona” family. But its symptoms are quite mild for most people. Many people get infected, pass it on, then fight it successfully. COVID19 is an influenza virus of the corona family, but with much greater symptoms to the point of killing people. The death rate among the young is about the same as with the typical influenza virus. But the rate with the elderly is higher than usual. Plus, the extremely long period of asymptomatic infection makes it far easier to transmit. THIS IS WHY there has to be such precautions taken, social distancing. Normal flu can incubate within a few days and show symptoms promptly thereafter. That we can deal with. Not a virus that takes 28 days until symptoms show.

You need to cut and paste quotes better since I never suggested participation in crowdfunding anything.

You should correct this post.

I quoted your text, “you need to copy and paste quotes better”
There is your own text.

You asked for a description and that is a description about the video.
If you want to be informed why don’t you see the video for yourself rather than rely on description of others and then imagine things.

Click the video on youtube and see these things for yourself, the embdded video does not show the request for crowdfunding, just plays the video.

I quote from Youtube:
“Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg is the first specialist we met to understand the current crisis about the coronavirus. Please support us so that we can investigate further in making a 90min cinema documentary: CORONA.FILM | Indiegogo

How to wash your hands

Good points.
Still for him coronavirus is coronaviruses in general (Coronaviridae - Wikipedia), for the average person “coronavirus” does not mean anything more than COVID-19 and the average person can think well “the coronavirus has been always here” when in fact for them the term simply means the new COVID-19, not all those species.

We all could use a good laugh , Thanks

A sobering but upbeat illustration of the ease of spreading contagion and the importance of washing hands well, cleaning phones, and not touching the face:

Bonus coronapoints for identifying the flashlight(s) in the video.

And more in the uplifting category:

My apologizes. Your right and I obviously misread your post :frowning:

I clearly thought that you were saying I was making a request for crowdfunding and you definitely wasn’t saying that.

Again, mea culpa from me.

Dr. Wodarg never says anything in the video about crowdfunding. Not one word. I watched it twice. What the posters of the video want is an altogether separate matter.

The doctor also points out that the dying people may have been infected by an additional virus strain or strains, but Covid-19 simply is chalked up automatically as the cause of death. Besides this, if he is correct that the test itself has never been trialed for accuracy, the cause of these people’s deaths is really an assumption. Some virus of some sort… maybe Covid-19, maybe not.

Just viewed this video today on the Korean Times. It's about 16 mins and I think is really worth a look as it seems the one that makes the most sense why governments worldwide seem to be in panic mode. Basically he is saying the virus has been unpredictable and what is happening in Italy is an aggressive mutation of the virus.

Summary of the video Stunning insights into the Corona-panic by Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg

  • corona virus always exists (about 7% to 15% of flu viruses each year)
  • new strains are mutated every year
  • the Covid19 test is actually NOT yet validated
  • the rate measurement is not accurate and the deaths presumably by Covid19 is marred with confounding factors

Dr Wodarg suggests it looks like the “king is naked scenario”. But as the politicians around the world have somehow joined the panic movement started by the China government, it is now hard to say that “nothing is going on”.

He mentioned a coincidence. The story started in Wuhan which happens to be the place where there are a world class safety lab and the best virologists in China. They made a report, and may be embellished it a bit which somehow got taken seriously by the China government.

I tend to think that Dr Wolfgang Wodarg video look like common sense. However, I happen to know people who works in field and they say that Covid19 is a new thing. The flooding of ICUs with pneumonia patients, the higher death rate observed in Italy, Spain, France and now USA are real and clearly higher than the yearly flu.

The video was published on 2020-03-13 (roughly a week ago), which means the stats Dr Wodarg had used in his study dated even before that. In particular, before the USA had taken strict confinement measures.

Because of the stale statictics, Dr Wodarg’s video could not convincingly explain high contagion rate and also death, even if we account for the supposedly not well trialed Covd19 test and some death could be caused by other pulmonary issue not Covod related.

And finally, let suppose the government of China was paranoid or naive and had over-reacted. Although some other countries could play the “me too” game just to be on the safe side. But I have hard time to believe that there could be that many countries, including Germany, are willing to endure a recession just for a “me too”.

In light of the new data, and we can read a few posts above that Czech Republic also has joined the emergency state with even stricter rules (fall people will have to wear a mouth and nose cover in public). The comment by member “xevious” seems to make more sense. Quote here for convenience:

If you want some hand wash & cant find any because of the lack of stock in shops because people have been panic buying then you might like this video.

Hakim Djaballah is not a medical doctor. His doctorate is a Ph.D. I have my doubts about his claims that the virus travels on virus-friendly bacteria, and that Italy has a mutated more aggressive form of the virus [at 8:30-45]. Those are interesting opinions, but lack evidence at least in that video. I’d welcome pointers to any source material. A DNA/RNA “fingerprint” would answer the question about mutation.

Here is some biographical information:

He’s not a virologist, from what that says.

meanwhile the complete state of Tyrol and parts of Salzburg have put under quarantine rules.

I guess it will get tougher for 2 or 3 more weeks before hopefully trends are doing down...

many of the dead had severe illness before and also corona

like a 27 year old girl who died yesterday in Austria.

14 years sick, but the doctors could handle it - now she added Corona and her status was no longer stable.

I have read news from China not so long ago and they were also stating that this virus is travelling on bacteria. It was a very interesting read but I didn't save the link at the time.

Our national blood bank stores samples of the blood they collect. It’s mandatory like others store legal documents, et cetera. Now they are conducting a search for Corona anti bodies in the blood they have collected since begin this year. Hoping to find a pattern and some evidence how/if it spreads out when it is (almost) not detected. It’s done anonimous, just counting.

It is suggested to dedicate a special time window for senior citizens to shop in supermarkets. And it was already a lot better than two weeks ago. Closing the schools means less mall rats.

This is probably just an internet rumor, but………

“Leprechauns To Give Out Toilet Paper In Lieu Of Gold when caught.”
“Ye’ll get me pot o’ toilet paper — if ye can catch me, that is!” cackled one leprechaun as he hid near the end of a rainbow.
