Uh, I have both. And the M2X UT Javelot AND the Triton (which now has an MT-G2 in it). The M3XS has a side switch that is plastic, seems weird. I don’t feel it competes with the MaxToch… build is thinner, feels cheaper. I actually still have the stock driver in my M3XS, de-domed the emitter or it came this way, don’t remember. But it just doesn’t perform like the Shooter 2X. I like the M2X UT Javelot, as a single cell compact thrower and with mine being highly modified I feel it’s among the best compact thrower’s out there. Still, it doesn’t beat the Shooter 2X. And of course, cost more.
Thanks for the input Dale. Good to know.
your highly modded m2x still gets beaten by the stock 2x shooter? what emitters do each light have?
there has to be something else different besides the plastic side switch between the m2x and the m3xs…maybe slightly bigger head? bigger reflecter/ nicer reflecter….i say this because my MEM modified m3xs-ut with dd xpg2 does around 430kcd.
is this shooter 2x still available to purchase?
Yes it is still available just not at the GB price anymore.

Apples to apples, both have de-domed XM-L2 emitters. The XP-G2 has a much smaller die so of course it’s a tighter beam. About the highest lumens though is some 1100, as compared to 1400-1600 from the larger emitter. In other words, the de-domed XP-G2 takes a Buck driver to make 5.5A and is a pencil beam with lower lumens concentrated in a hot spot. I kept my M2X-UT single cell for it’s compact nature.
I’d test them both again but my Shooter how has an XHP-35 in it. The Shooter’s numbers are fairly well known though, so I’ll check the Javelot in the morning and see what it’s Kcd output is.
I recall saying something along those lines here a couple of years ago.
what? you put a xhp35 in it? why not a xhp35 HI instead? and why? you wanted more lumens?
the throw must have dropped considerably right? maybe only 200kcd
Here is a few of Dales post on the 2 emitters in the 2X.
I got a couple of beamshots last night but my internet is barely existent, can’t post them just yet. Suffice it to say that the throw and overall beam quality on this light is just superb! Edit: The things I do for you guys! I had to refresh the page no less than 5 times just to be able to log in to ImageShack! Ugh! Obligatory red oil drum shot at 97 yds. [image] And the little white barn at 610 yds… [image]
Shooter 2X XHP-35 with LD-2 driver and 4 LG HE-2 cells at 4.08V, rested…. 0.06A for 89 lumens 0.57A for 783.15 2.89A for 2346 281Kcd for 1060.19M throw This is pretty much right after getting it working, reflector is sitting flat on the Noctigon 32mm mcpcb with Kapton tape doubled on it’s base (reflectors base). 22Ga leads.
The extended Shooter 2X XHP-35 over my daughters psychedelic bedspread, I shoulda made her take that with her when she left… [image] Ok, my internet and loading pics, once again an issue. Gotta pull that boy off the games… I don’t even have a tool bar showing to allow adding pictures, I don’t really understand that as Image Shack opened and uploaded pictures just fine. BLF is sensing my poor internet and putting me on a base version or something. The Olight M3XSUT Javelot with an HI emitter……
I took some measurements of voltage and amperage at the the emitter, and when I put the bezel/reflector back in it went on a little differently. So I checked lux again and got a surprise! 326.25Kcd for 1142.37M throw. Pretty much where the de-domed XM-L2 started out but with considerably more lumens. Sweet! 0.06A at 10.80V for ~89 lumens 0.55A at 12.22V for ~783 lumens 2.87A at 14.75V for ~2346 lumens She’s singing along nicely! And the LD-2 driver is very efficient apparently, with tail cu…
wow, good stuff. i think it was a good trade off. i was really off with the kcd….cant believe you got 280kcd!
still curious to know what a xhp35HI would do though.

I think that is a HI version in his 2X. Also, in another measurement, last link in 2nd post above, he measured 326Kcd.
I’ve got one doing 2.8A in a MaxToch Shooter 2X, another in a MaxToch SN50 doing about 2.83A and the one in the L2 doing 3.13A. These are all using the LD-2 modified to work on 4 cells. The big MaxToch is using 4 18500’s, the Shooter 2X is using 4 18650’s. The L2 of course is using 4 of the 26350’s. The TN42 is running on 2S2P Samsung 30Q’s. Been meaning to test it and see if it makes the same numbers on a lesser cell… Edit: the one doing 2900 started out domed and I sliced it. The Shooter 2X …
Is there a short tube for the 2x? In general it should be possible to run this light on 2 16350 batteries to make it more compact? Of course with shorter run times…

Currently there is not a short tube designed to work with the 2X. I don’t think the 2x16350 would deliver the current needed for the buck driver in the current model 2X though , even if you did have a tube to fit those.
But I have been wrong before…lol
EDIT: the older model M24 DID have a short tube that worked with that one , but it had a lower current driver in it. I put the tube off a Convoy C8 on the older M24 and it worked with a single 18650 , where as the new 2X and M24 will not work with the single cell with that tube.
Ideal batteries would be 2x 18350 . Of course they could handle the current (keeppower imrs or enercig i use can handle up to 9-10 amps)
DANG … of course I meant 2x 18350… two of them could deliver the voltage needed…
Saw your guys post last night about those tubes and knew I had a couple and as matter of fact I think Amanda told me the 2 I bought were the last.
They are for the M24 Sniper, I missed the GB but still bought the light from Amanda just without the BLF branding, and bought these single cell tubes also.
Tried one last night on the 2X with 2 18350’s and seemed to work fine. At 1600mAh I don’t think your going to get much run time obviously
Sorry about crap pics but got pissed off at my old camera so had to use my cell phone until the New camera arrives, That single cell tube is on the 2X…
You’re not going to get 1600mAh from two 18350 cells in series, but you will get 8.4v.
600mAh maybe…
Yes, thanks Robert & Dale, I could tell that in just the time it took me to snap a picture and flip through the modes a couple times that on those old Efest cells there was not much left when I took the picture.
Certainly not something you’d want on your 2X, the M24 it works well put still doesn’t give a lot of run time on one cell.

Thanks a lot, so there WAS a short tube for the M24 that fits the Shooter and that is not sold anymore? Bummer.
Since I´m already typing here and I wanted to ask for a longer time: what´s the reason for the 2 x 18650 in series resulting in 8,4V anyway? The XM-L2 is a 3 V LED any could easily be driven with one 18650 or one 26650? So the driver must be a buck driver lowering the voltage for the LED to work…
K.
Runtimes and stable output from my point of view .
If you need 4 volts 4.5 amps @ the led , with the buck driver you will get 8.4V less current from the batteries (about half , depending drivers efficiency).
Also , a proper buck driver holds steady output until batteries run out (or a very good amount of time) .
