The Sofirn HS10 or SC21 Mini look the part but they use 16340 batteries. SC13 would fit the bill but it’s SST40 which is not too high CRI. What are the other options (including Sofirn mentioning using more Nichia 519A in the future - which I take as possibly putting it in the SC13?).
Wurkkos FC11C has everything (buck driver, 519a, USB-C charging), and Wurkkos has a 18350 tube for it (sold separately).
Does it have to be 18350? Wurkkos HD10 (once the updated version launches) has 14500, USB-C, Anduril, and what seems to be R9080 emitters. Same weight and capacity class as most smaller 18350s.
you can change options to find other lights but his database is incomplete
Fc11 2700k, 4k and now the 11c in 5K. HD15 4000k spot and flood both hi cri. It comes with the extra short tube. If somebody wanted to carry a single relatively small light the HD15 is a contender. Not that I recommend only carrying one light.
Skilhunt EC200 Mini series. They are several variations with choices of aux led. I don’t have one but here is a review. It looks well made and thought out but costs about 2-3x as much as a budget brand though.
Is this the right tube for FC11C? There seem to be a blue FC11C, but I imagine that the short tubes are only black, is this correct?
Also, are there any runtime graphs for this light? The LED in the FC11C is 519A 5000K I understand, but is that the only difference or it also has a different driver/optics compared to the older FC11?
And I’m royally confused now looking at Wurkkis website: there is a the FC11 with Samsung LED, there is the FC11 with Nichia LED, and there is the FC11C (blue only?) also with Nichia LED… How does that work - is the driver in C different from the driver in not C?
Yes. FC11C uses a buck driver. FC11 uses a FET driver, hence the former being recommended more now than the latter
Yep, that’s it, only black though. The FC11C is available in black too, all you should do is choose the black option on the listing (same listing as the blue).
It has a different driver than the standard FC11C, it’s way more efficient, can sustain the output for longer, and the regulation is actually pretty nice. Same optics as the standard FC11 (orange peel aluminium reflector). You can always modify it for TIR optics but that’s not necessary, the stock configuration is already very good. Relative output runtime graphic available here
I found this size comparison between the FC11 with a short tube and the Sofirn SC21. I was about to get SC21, but I like 18350 standardisation (Sofirn IF19) :-).
Incidentally, I discovered that Sofirn SC31 seems similar to FC11, at least visually. But it appears that the new FC11C may be the overall winner in light quality, portability, and usability if a long throw is not needed or desirable.
Benefit of Sofirn SC21 Pro is that it has Anduril and a button light that helps me find the light in the dark.
Benefit of the Wurkkos FC11C is the buck driver w NoPWM and 519a LED. I have not tried one, but Im tempted.
I think the SC21 Pro might have a lower moonlight.
here is a thread w more info
Maybe buy both and let us know what you think.
I have a shorty tube from HS40 headlamp. I don’t know whether it will fit the FC11C or not. I will try it when it arrives, although I don’t have any 18350 battery to test it yet. Never liked the idea of replacing a 3400mAh battery with 1000mAh battery. The range anxiety will kill me XD
fwiw, the latest have 1600mAh
an 18650 still has double the capacity, but the body tube w battery, also weighs about twice as much as an 18350 (tube w battery)…
plus an 18350 light is over an inch shorter…
SP40, SP40A, HS40, SC31, FC11, FC11C, HD15: Same threading, short tubes are interchangeable.
the latest have 1600mAh
1600mAh sounds a lot better. I will try to source some if I like the shorty FC11C.
Same threading, short tubes are interchangeable
Good to know. The knurling is a bit ugly but as long as works …
FYI Wurkkos 18350 tubes have a different knurling style. You can get one if the HS40 traditional knurling bothers you too much.
3A continuous discharge won’t be too useful in a flashlight. Pretty sure the M11v2 will outperform it by far.
