Yes I have.
Last year while traveling through NY I found an 18V Ryobi hard surface blower for a penny. It is in the same line of tools as the hedge trimmer and also came with a battery and charger. Original price was $119
6 weeks later I found another at the SAME store!
Will be checking this today at my local HD, maybe even the other one next town overā¦ I have a few of the Ryobi ONE+ 18v tools, so even just for the extra battery and charger, this is worth the cost.
My wife and I are on 2 day trip through Ohio. Sheās driving and I am quietly browsing BLF. The radio is not playing and she suddenly turned to me and exclaimed that the Home Depot back in Connecticut was just evacuated due to a gas leak.
I was incredulous and asked hOW do you know THAT?
(She got a Channel 3 news alert on her Apple Watch)
On this day trip she allowed me to stop and check out a HD that we passed and there were no clearance hedge trimmers on the floor, just the newer model. I did check the overheads and found 3 of the model on clearance and pulled one down. Even though there were no stickers it scanned for 25.03. I grabbed 2, the third box was open.
ImA4, if itās not too much trouble you could check your overhead shelves for unmarked stock.
^
Hey dchomak. Hope your trip is going well. I stopped at a HD on the way home from work yesterday and searched the upper shelves as requested. Could not find anything, but was really surprised by the amount of āstuffā that was up there. Looking around the store, I saw quite a few items that seemed to be in areas unrelated to the product. So there could be some of those hedge trimmers somewhere in the store.
Thanks of the tip. Going forward, Iām going to start looking up!
I forgot to tell this; You know those Philips basic bulb that sold for $4.97 per 2-pack ($2.48 per lamp)? Well recently I saw those lamps on sale for $3.00 per 2-pack ($1.50 per lamp). Thatās a very good price! Not as good as those TCP lamps that I got for $1.28 each I think it was, but itās close.
Soon LED retrofit lamps (ābulbsā) will be super cheap and disposable like incandescents, and be 25Ā¢ each or so.
CFLs are already there, and have been for a little while now.
Also hereās another interesting thing. At Home Depot I saw this poster/advertisement thing that said something like Free Batteries; Free Parts; Free Service; for life, for RDIGID toolsā¦ apparently RIDGID has a āLifetime Service Agreementā where, if you register your tool within 90 days of purchase, you will get free parts (including replacement batteries) and free service for life (until you, or whoever purchased the tool, dies). RIDGID Powertools :: About LSA
If this actually works then this must be awesome! One of the problems with cordless drills is that when the battery reaches end of life and you need a new one, replacement batteries are so expensive that a new tool with battery included is not much more. With this agreement, you can send in your tool and they should give you a new battery for free! Wow
Sounds too good to be trueā¦ is it? Anyone had any experience with this thing?
The Home depot in nearby Danbury hardly ever has bargains like the what you show
Some times if Iām near New Milford I stop in but never find good stuff cheap.
A Columbia, SC HD has several of the Defiant flashlights on sale. The 3D Armormax was $15 and that 2AA that looks interesting to me was $11. Canāt find them on their website. So it appears they are clearing out that line. Didnāt see any of the AA or C Armormaxās around.
Iām glad that I happened to read your Home Depot Bargain shopping Thread, so I can tell you about Ridgid Tools my Friendā¦ I had been buying Dewalt Battery powered Drills for years, and every time the Battery or Charger would die, I would Buy a new Drill set.
Then in 2008 when I was in Home Depot buying some parts for a project I was working on, I saw an Advertisement on a Big Sign at the Contractors Counter that said ā Ridgid Tools Covered by a Unconditional Lifetime Warrantyā against anything and also Covered Batteries! Of course I thought this has Got to be a Really Slick Marketing Ploy to get Customers to buy their tools, because RIDGID TOOLS ONLY made the BEST of Tools for Every Trade that I knew of, but now Home Depot Owns them too (They had just Bought Train Corperation) āThe Air-Conditioning Manufacturer ā and I was Really Sceptical about the Deal! :( >:/ >:-/
Long Story short, I bought a New RIDGID TOOL Kit in October of 2008, I did go online as instructed and Registered for the Lifetime Warranty. The kit that I originally Bought had a Defective Battery Charger and I found that out after about 4 weeks, and I had already Registered the tools in the kit online. Everything about RIDGID TOOLS & their Lifetime warranty was still Brand New, there was One Service Center in Nashville that was a RIDGID TOOL Service Company. I took my Charger and Batteries to them and they were STILL unpacking Boxes and Moving into the Bldg. I told them why I was there, they looked up my profile on the Ridgid Tool website and Handed me 2 New Batteries and 1 New Charger. I walked out the door Amazed at how Simple it was and I have been Using Ridgid Tools ever since then, and I have acquired Many More of their Tools over the years! :D :)
Because if you donāt have to replace a Drill, Charger or Batteries every year or Two, you can afford to buy any other type of tool you want or Need, because Everything is Covered FREE for Life! $-)
But, You Have to Buy the Kits or Tools From a Home Depot Store!!! If you Buy anything off of eBay, Craigslist, or a yard Sale, it will Not be Covered for Life, or at all! You may get Lucky and get a 3 year Warranty, but itās not worth it at all!
I noticed that my Batteries werenāt lasting as Long as they use too, so I took all 5 and Both Chargers to the Service Center and walked out with 1 New Charger & Batteries on order that will be Delivered to the Store by Friday, and I will be there to pick them up and my other Charger by Noon! The Best part of the entire thing, is that it is FREE!!!
I Will have to Get online after I Pick up the New Parts, and Type in the New Model Numbers and Serial Numbers for each battery, Charger or any other tool that I may have to Exchange, in my online Account on their Website. I will Remove all of the Old Model Numbers and Serial Numbers from my account so it will show Only the Correct Items that I Own, so I can Stay on the LSA. Or Lifetime Service Agreement and Keep All of my Tools Covered for the rest of my Life, and That my Friendās is a Deal that You Do Not Find anywhere these days!!!
Do yourself a Favor and Give yourself an early Birthday Present if your 18 Volt Battery is Dead on your (Insert Name Here) Drill, Leaf Blower or Electric Power tool they are Covered TOOā¦ Save yourself some cash for Buying Flashlights and Important things like that, and Buy a RIDGID TOOL for anything that needs to be replaced that you use to keep the House Running and the Honey Do List Caught t to Date! She will Like you that much more when you never have to buy another $99.00 Battery (If you Buy it on Fatherās Day weekend)? Not going to mention any names, but they are Yellow & Black.
Do yourself a Favor and when they Run a Multi Tool Kit on SALE, but yourself one! You will Never regret it, and you will Never Look back. I Guarantee it, thatās what Happened to meā¦
With the rigid ālifetime warrantyā issue - I remember reading something negative (or at least a ācatchā) and I think it was that you had to personally deliver and exchange the defective product, which is fine if you live close enough to one of these āwarranty centersā. Swear I read this explained on BLF too (could even be buried in this thread).
Wow thank you; nice to hear a success story with this. Iāve seen some negative stories as well as positive stories so it might be a little tricky to get the LSA and some people might not be lucky enough.
Next time we need a tool, Iāll take a look at RIDGID.
Hereās the negative story that I read: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Fuego-10-Amp-Orbital-Reciprocating-Saw-R30022/202562215 Scroll down into the reviews to the review titled āTerrible Service for Reasonably Good Machinesā.
So, it looks like, to get the LSA, you may need to go through some hickery dickery to get it, but it shouldnāt be impossible. If they make it difficult for you then a good tactic is to say āThe only reason I bought this tool was because of the LSA, but if I cannot get the LSA as advertised, then I have no reason to buy RIDGID and I will return this tool and buy someone elseās tool.ā (or something like that)
A few years ago Ridgid got a bad rep for the battery packs in their tools. Back then they were using Chinese cells. Of course that led to problems. I have opened a lot of the Ridgid battery packs from the recycle bins, and yes the early ones had the Chinese cells. I posted about it here.
I believe that in order to gain back the trust of those in the Trades they had to go an extra step and offer āLifetimeā guarantees going forward.
For everyoneās amusement I will repost this video of a disgruntled customer.
