So, I have some great news, some just good news(they’re not bad news, but less than I wanted) and some great future news.
Great news: All of the GT FC30s and FC60s have been produced, fabbed, and shipped. Hopefully I’ll receive them early next week for rapid testing.
Just good news: While the FC60s is easily available to be produced with a rating of Ra9080, I discovered something interesting about phosphors for smaller LEDs and why we mostly see the small die high power high color rendition stuff from larger manufacturers: they are a rarer from conventional suppliers and more expensive than larger phosphors, which explains why very few smaller manufacturers actually manufacture high power high CRI LEDs in 5050 and smaller.
I’m saying all of this to say that the GT FC30 will having a rating of Ra9070 guaranteed, not Ra9080 sadly. It’s still a very interesting LED though, so I’ll be keeping my eyes on it.
Also, since we were dealing with a sample batch, I wasn’t able to get serious any tint binning going on, which means the sample LEDs come in duvs of –0.001 to 0.003. Certainly not bad, but not what I want in the production batch
Future great news:
Once we get to the production batch, we will be able to ask for tint duv binning of –0.005 to 0.000, slightly rosy to perfectly neutral, and if we are willing to pay a bit extra for some samples, they will check if tint duv binning of –0.010 to –0.005 is possible, so 219B SW45K grade to slightly rosy grade.
Yeah, I’m actually surprised they have such tight tolerances on tint.
I’m going to make a few polls in the future on this topic, specifically the LED choice and tint, because I initially planned for the GT FC30 and FC60, but now that the mythical 3V 5050 R9070 LED is now here, I’m going to have to choose
Don’t worry too much about the luminosity measured. I’ve discussed this with my contact, and they seem to have problems with lumen measurements, as they have a similar GT FC40 sample that scores a bit more at lower power.
I’ll test the true lumen output once I get the samples home, since I now have access to a wild GT FC40 sample
I guess it’s also time to make the 3V 5050 R9070 LED group buy
