I found this thread, just in looking at “recent posts” and noticed that someone had put a link to Fasttech, of whom I have placed several orders with, so I gave the sunglasses a try.
I got these in. They are very nice.
I wouldn’t know the difference between real and fake, though.
I wanted to clarify something. I am not hurting Oakley if I choose to buy a $15 copy of one of their models. The Flak Jackets I saw were $225. The way I use and loose glasses, I don’t EVER intend on paying more than $50-60 for a set. I don’t wear prescription glasses so sunglasses are just something to keep in the car. I don’t think about them like someone who lives with glasses does.
The choice is not between $15 fake Oakleys and $225 real ones for me. It’s about $15 fakes or $15-20 something else. If all the fake Oakleys were taken off the market today, I would not be forced to pay $225 for real Oakleys because I don’t need them. I would just buy something else. I like the fit of the flak jacket but the looks are nothing special.
I didn’t end up buying any fake Oakleys because I couldn’t find a store that sold the ones I liked and that looked like a legit bussiness. I ended up buying a couple pairs of Tifosi sunglasses because I already had a pair that were reasonably priced and I was happy with. I got two more pairs for like $35 each which was a good price for the model. I guess Tifosi is sort of the Fenix of sunglasses. Good quality name brand but not luxury top of the line prices. Good enough for me.
I used to buy cheap sunnies, for the same reasons. They always get marked up, broken, lost, stolen. Until I bought some raybans. My eyes have never been happier. Im not saying you need to spend a fortune to get good results or buy rb’s, but in some of the higher brands the hype is worth it. My eyes at the end of a drive in bright sunny Queensland are more relaxed and Im more relaxed, yet less tired. I also tend to keep an eye on my sunnies due to the cost, and take care of them. Problem solved itself.
So you’re saying that publicly looking for and potentially publicizing a counterfeiter doesn’t hurt Oakley? Or that contributing to the dilution of their brand doesn’t hurt Oakley?
Companies like Oakley rely in part on the exclusivity of their items. When their clientele decide that their stuff isn’t exclusive or “cool” anymore because there are too many fakes out there, that definitely hurts them.
I’m not saying that you should have to care about Oakley’s bottom line, they’re a big company and what’s the big deal if they have a few layoffs. But you’re kidding yourself if you think that you’re not hurting them at all just because “you would never pay that much anyway.”
I am definitely in the ‘buy quality sunglasses’ camp. That doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune. You will just not get good optical quality from crappy fake sunglasses, and that is what gives you headaches and causes fatigue.
It does hurt Oakley, not from lost sales, but because it helps counterfeiters stay in business. I won't feel bad about it in this case though. I would have in the past, but now Oakley is part of Luxoticca, a massive horizontally and vertically integrated monopoly. It's picking the lesser of two evils, which is all too familiar for those of us that vote.
i don’t have huge income, i am not rich, BUT !!! i don’t have spare pair of eyes, which i will use after cheap and crappy sunglasses destroy my original pair of eyes…that is all i have to say…personally i prefer low end model from a brand name, which by the way does not have to be OAKLEY or RUDY PROJECT, you can take a look at JULBO or CEBE or BOLLE which can fit in the budget of 50 or 60 USD oh and did i mentioned that i wear prescription of –3.00 sphere on both eyes so choosing sunglass for me is a nightmare because custom lenses like polar 3fx from rudyproject can cost more than 500 USD for pair…anyway, until i can afford those i am happy with my RX optical inserts…
I’m not even sure fake Oakleys hurt the company at all. In fact, it might help them. Say someone buys a fake set of Oakleys and really likes them, they might choose to spend the cash to get the real deal only because they enjoyed the cheaper version enough. I know that it works like that for me a lot of times. I will buy something because it’s cheap and if I don’t like anything about it, I’m not out much. If I liked it but thought it would be worth the extra cash for the real deal, I have no problem paying up.
I’m not about name brands and paying for a name so tacking on an extra $100 to a pair of sunglasses ONLY because they are Oakleys is not my cup of tea. It reminds me of Surefire. Surefire is OK but they simply are not worth the price in most cases for most uses. If my life depended on it, that’s a different story but if you just want a flashlight for taking the dogs for a walk at night, you may not need the best.
I don’t buy into the fear that if you don’t spend $300 on a pair of sunglasses you will go blind. It’s total BS. You almost can’t find a pair of sunglasses that don’t block 99.99% UV, they all do. These myths have been debunked. What is not a myth is almost all sunglasses are made by the same giant mega monopoly. Luxotica admits the cost of most of their high end ‘brands’ is simply paying for a name. All sunglasses cost about the same to make, the difference is if it says Ray Ban, Oakley or DG. A $300 pair of sunglasses is 90% name brand markup.
If you truly believe that in your heart, why in the world would you resurrect this thread, needlessly, after nearly a year and plead your innocence. No one here really cares if you buy fake Oakleys.
well, maybe, but then again, maybe not…let’s start with the anti reflection coating on the lenses ( usually they put it only on the back side of lenses because the front side is often coated with mirror coating…why i am wining about anti reflective coating? well if you put prescription optical insert on polarized ALIEXPRESS fake oakley radar (i bought those for 30:money_mouth_face: you will have annoying mirror images of your own eyes combined with reflections of the prescription lenses which makes them totally unusable) myself i have rudyproject rydon with RX optical insert and i have 3 pairs of different lenses that are genuine rudyproject: -impactX polarized grey, -multilaser red, -polar 3fx grey and i can say that i am disappointed in the first two BUT the polar 3fx are worth every penny…yes you read that right i am disappointed with 100$ worth genuine lenses but that does not mean that i will go back to the fake oakley radars that i have…my job involves a lot of driving and i can tell you that when the setting/rising sun just over the horizon shines in a wet asphalt it is absolute disaster and polarized lenses are a MUST but as you can see i am equally disappointed in polarized fakes and original ones BUT i kept looking and trying different lenses and when i got a pair of polar 3fx i never looked back, now i’m just saving money so i can order those in my prescription…you can not just take two different lenses and put them on UV meter and say this both have 99.99% UV block and say that they are equally good…it would be like comparing NIKON D4 (16 megapixel and 6000 USD body only) with samsung mobile phone galaxy s4 and saying that the phone’s 13mpix camera is equally good as the nikon d4…
Not all lenses are made the same, I wouldn’t trade my lenses for anything in the world.
I bough a $100 POLARIZED HALF JACKET® XLJ FISHING SPECIFIC with the Deep Blue Polarized lens which lets me see through glare in windshields or the surface of water, it also adds a rainbow effect to those surfaces sorta like if you looked at oil on the floor.
You can see the lenses here if you click on lens tint at the bottom, then choose the shallow water option to see what I mean.
That’s a more reasonable price that what I saw at the mall. They were double that. If they reduce glare from a windshield, that would be a nice feature as I drive a lot and glare is the worst. That’s why I like glasses that cover most of my eye. When light gets in at the top, it makes it very hard for me to see.
Why would you respond to a thread that you didn’t care about? I’m not pleading anything. I’ll buy any damn thing I want and if you don’t approve, I couldn’t care less.
I bumped this thread because I never bought any fake Flak Jackets but now I want some. I kind of want to buy some just to piss you off. LOL!
