The Dw3AA is a right angle light that just came out. I ordered a Red one with DeDomed 4500K 519a. With tailcap magnet, pocket clip, plus a 10511 optic. I chose the Amber switch button.
the Skilhunt head is actually narrower, and there is no glass that can break the way it can on a Zebra.
But the Skillhunt also has no Aux, and No Anduril.
The Dw3AA is definitely bigger and heavier. It is also More Efficient than both the Skilhunt and the Zebra.
They are all nice lights in their own right, but the Dw3AA is the Only Headlamp that offers AA capability And Anduril.
Hank doesn’t seem to like using B35AM, and with the boost driver he has to either use a 6V+ emitter, or 3 of them… Everything else needs a less efficient buck-boost.
I do enjoy the Flat Copper Switch Bezel. I asked for it by replying to the confirmation email for my order.
but dont feel bad if it is too late… as the main bezel of the Dw3AA is Stainless, and only the switch ring can be optioned to copper… So they wont match…
I’m using the Skilhunt HB4 headband with mine, size S. Works well so far. The DW3AA fits into the mount a bit more tightly than the D2 but it doesn’t feel like I’m pushing the plastic to the point of snapping.
I really enjoy my Emisar D2 with a 219B behind a frosted optic, and an Osram W1 behind a throwy optic. Flood and throw in one little lightweight headlamp. Very versatile. So that’s what I’ve been using ever since I got it. It replaced my Zebralight.
The triple format would be good for flood, but I don’t really use enough power to need a triple. Ideally I’d prefer something smaller with a single LED or pair or even 3-4 LEDs all in a straight line along the side of the battery tube, behind a frosted lens. I don’t usually need throw in a headlamp, and an in-line layout would provide a wide emission surface for more blurred-out shadows. Plus, the emitters would be centered instead of off to one side… which can be really helpful when working up-close.
For a non-angled 1xAA torch with an Eneloop, I’d love to see a smaller Emisar D1AA type thing. One nice emitter, in a host which is as small as possible. Like a DA1K but scaled down to AA size. And given a choice between shorter or narrower, I’d go for narrower… even if it meant the host had to be longer. I think the main benefit of 1xAA lights is that they can be skinny, and that seems preferable to being stubby.
I do not use the HD10 because it has PWM, even though I like the tailmagnet, Aux, and Anduril UI very much.
The Dw3AA is now my car light, because it can use AA and has Anduril w NoPWM. My favorite driver, by far.
The Zebra is cute and smooth, but the UI is a nightmare, and some outputs have High Flicker Index. The Zebra has no Aux to locate the light in the dark and no tailmagnet to secure the light on metal surfaces.
The Skilhunt H150 is a great little dual fuel light with NoPWM. I like the UI much better than a Zebra. It has no Aux, but it does have a tailmagnet.
The Emisar D2 is my personal favorite of the group, because it is so lightweight, slim, dual channel (DD4500K and 660nm), with Aux, tailmagnet, and Anduril UI with NoPWM.
Still extremely impressed with the driver, but it won’t be replacing my TH20 for AA or ramping function.
I often like to wear headlamps on my work shirt button placket. It prevents blinding co~workers, bounce back from highly reflective HVAC ducting, etc etc .
The DW3AA length, clip retention and weight balance doesn’t lend itself to a successful carry, in this aspect, for my own use. Looking forward to possible single emitter option and reduced size.
HD10 and DW3AA are both triple emiters and Emisar looks soooo big! Also HD10 has USB charging and still is smaller.
I’m staying with my H150, despite lack of aux and Anduril, also it has switch on side which is cool. Also in some way - magnetic charging.
