Opple Light Master 4 discussion thread (new 2023 model)

Hi steve, the version is 3.2.2
The frustration isn’t with you, it’s mainly with Opple. You are doing all you can which is appreciated.

2 Thanks

Version 3.2.2 looks like this on Android

You did not do it badly! You gave us the information as it was told to you.
In fact, it is great to see that Opple has employees that care about the customers and their reputation!
I understand why people would want it fixed immediately, but that is just not going to happen.
In any case, I can’t understand why some would be so critical of you when you are just trying to help us out.
The old, “don’t kill the messenger” saying applies here. Especially when the messenger is on our own side.

I am so sorry that you are being treated so badly when just trying to help. I would like to apologize for this.

It would be bad for all of us if you left the forum because some members are just angry.

4 Thanks

@stevechang
Thank you for your feedback that you provide on BLF.
Not everyone does that.
I think that you’re doing your best, so keep up the good work. :+1:

Tell me you’ve never done development for a living without telling me you’ve never done development for a living

Getting screwed around on scheduling, projects, and priorities is just part of the aggravation that comes with the job.

5 Thanks

Here is an idea, keep in mind that he is doing this as a volunteer who obviously has a life and full time job. Why would you think that this needs to be a priority for him? He does not owe any of us anything…

I doubt it, seriously doubt it. I have been an early adopter enough times to know that often one just has to suck it up and be patient.
The price to be paid for being among the first to have a new toy. Pleasant, no. But it is what it is. Not worth wasting emotional energy over a cheap device that your life is not seriously impacted by.

3 Thanks

Mandrake, its very clear you’ve never been a business owner. Opple screwed themselves over this whether you like to admit it or not, and the fact that Opple Europe held back on the release proves my point.
The fact that they released a product without prior testing is their screwup, I’m just pointing that out. This has nothing to do with adopting a new toy, did their previos versions had as much issues as LM4, I’m assuming no.
You seem to want to excuse their screwups and concern yourself with me holding them accountable? You cannot be serious!

The real kicker, you seem to excuse their empty promises for updates, very interesting…

1 Thank

That really doesn’t seem like what they’re saying at all… Yong is taking the time to share updates with us, completely just on his own efforts to engage with the community, knowing how valuable they find their products. He is presumably under zero obligation to do this, and as I just said, if you have ever done any kind of development work professionally, you would know that schedule slips, changes of scope and direction, and just random BS happens all the time, and IMHO if any major software project is completed on time and within budget, it’s close to a red flag… It’s probably just as frustrating for him and the other Opple employees as for you, likely more so.

as a customer who received a buggy product, although it’s quite inexpensive, the mood must be bad, I can fully understand this, i feel sorry for all of this.
just now, i asked my colleague in shanghai about this 730 issue, his reply is 730 version will go through point check today, without any issue, the app will be launched in one week(“point check” mean testing before launch according to his saying) ,that’s to say, 730 version did delayed, oops. I gave them code on July 7th. and they said, firmware update would be on September 15th.
recently, try to add support of a new kind of light developed by Opple(I personally experience it, the light quality is very superb), so light master must support this spectrum. in the long run, daylight support will be supported. and precision in low lux environment and lux range will be extended to 100, 000 lux, maybe March 1th, 2024.
those dates are not determined and fixed right now.
as for flashlight spectra, we didn’t calibrate for it specifically.
I can decide nothing, just try to communicate with our user.

TimMc, no update delivered on time. Sorry for the delay, promises don’t come easy

Wolfgirl, You still have no idea why Yong is here. The reason why he is here is because Opple is in damage control, TSHTF, even yong mentioned that they are in a dilema in his first post. People started returning their devices for a refund, the reason why steve is here is to slow the flow of returns and how do you accomplish this? You offer empty promises and hope for the best. Yong is either on the app team or a higher up postion in the company, most of his responses indicate this. Why was he away for nearly 2 weeks the day of the app release, coincidence or super busy? It’s because there was no app being released, Critical thinking is all it takes, there are cluses all over the place. All this working from home on his time is part of the charde.
There’s a reason why i was frustrated in my first post, and i had a good reason to be. I was slowly putting together the pieces and what i discovered is that the company is as shady as they come.
Try returning your LM4 for a refund, you will get nothing but headaches. Steve is here because they don’t want to refund people and lose all that money.
There is so much more to this that I just can’t be bothered anymore.
The best advice i can give to those who have the LM4, its pointless waiting on an update.

@Steve017, your understanding is not accurate. I am not high up in the company, I am just a engineer, I swear it. I did said we are kind of in a dilemma because if the product was released on September 1th instead of March 1th, we would see far less bugs. Slow the flow of returns? absolutely no. I want to be the bridge between user and the company, that’s why I am here, no other single reason.
sorry, I understand your feeling, but I am in an embarrassing situation, can you understand?

6 Thanks

Yong, there is absolutely no excuse for knowingly releasing a defective product and giving people a hard time when they want to return it. I’m usually correct with my assessments, you’ve droped so many hints I’m surprised that no one has picked up on it. You make it seem that everything i outlined in my post is a coincidence, all I see is red flags.
I really hope you come through for the customers who have held onto their LM4 due to postage costs or whatever, make it right and don’t screw them over!
I’m done here.

do I have the authority to release a defective product? It’s long predetermined date, your assessment is wrong, although I can understand you are furious because everyone doesn’t want to buy a product first and then find it’s buggy. Because I am now currently on this boat, you want to to tell you everything? don’t push me to do that.

this screen shot is from my own profile page, “工程师” means engineer, I am not high up in the company as you guessed.

1 Thank

there are superiors, Product Manager/Project Manager, I am just one of the team members, I am just an engineer, I am not on the management team. Believe it or not, that’s all I can tell. I bought a wristband about half a year ago, and It notified me to update for almost 7~8 times. PM can accept the fact, that’s product was originally buggy when released, and then roll out updates frequently.

2 Thanks

Did the battery in your wristband go flat?

can’t get what you mean.
what I mean is a wristband I bought about half a year ago, during the day I bought it and till now, I updated the wristband’s firmware about 7~8 times, that’s annoying but seems acceptable. the PM thinks so does the Light Master.

It’s ok, nevermind.

Putting everything aside, where are the updates? where are they?
There are missed updates going back a few months, how does this happen?

I thought you were done here?

5 Thanks

I’m done when i get a straight answer from him, so far he has dodged it.
I’m sure others have a vested interest in knowing what on earth is going on with the empty promises.
