Please don't use 'quote' for 'reply', and don't bloat with multi-quote

Come on fellows this is basic: Please just use the ‘reply’ button.

Please don’t use the ‘quote’ button to reply to someone’s post unless there is something contained therein upon which you need to focus or emphasize in order to explain in your reply.

And please quit with the multi-quote replies—this is bloating out threads and causing a low signal-to-noise ratio in the forum.

In addition this is a wasteful practice and use of resources, and it costs the owner bandwidth especially when the quoted reply contains a bunch of pictures that are being quoted for no apparent reason. Get with the program and help out to save bandwidth—this is not free for whoever is paying the internet bill…

But if we don’t quote how will people know who we’re replying to?

You can, for example, edit the quote and trim it down to just the required section.

You’re not my supervisor. :sunglasses:

And please do not reserve posts unless required :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers David

I wonder how much bandwidth all these reserved posts consume.

(I’m just messing with ya man. )

Two bananas worth unless you are in Australia which is 3 bananas and a lemon.

Cheers David

How about two melons and a beaver?

Melons? Beaver? Who are you talking to? Please quote. :person_facepalming:

Are you serious or just crankin’ my chain?

i reserved a post to expand on this topic and show examples if necessary—hopefully it won’t be necessary and i can always delete it later.

i’m sure some of you are aware of your actions, others not so much…

s. two mellons and a beaver beats bananas anyday.

It is useful to quote the comment you are replying to. Especially when the comment is not the last comment in the thread. By quoting it you don’t have to memorize the points you are replying to, and it is clear who you are replying to.

You might want to rethink telling others to “quit’ doing something, to ”get with the program” and asserting that there is “a low signal-to-noise ratio in the forum”.

Whats the lemon for? I thought it was a lime in the coconut

Well partly joking, but the quoting serves an important function.

Maybe you are just talking about “unnecessary” quoting?

LOL I don’t think you’re going to need to reserve a place for examples something tells me (if you build it they will come) you’ve opened a can of worms.

We appreciate the effort

Hmmmmm, a fresh can of worms!

Please do not cause fruit inflation, fellows. :expressionless:

This crowd tends more towards contradictory than contractionary.

Now don’t quote me on this, but I don’t think the forum is bloated at all.

Topics like this one generate more bloat than anything else.

They serve as a sort of curved mirror.

Morpheus: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You click the reply button - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You click quote - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.
