A little bit spooky that three legged Isle of Man symbol
I must have a big coin from the Isle of Man island somewhere, with US presidents on one side , hmm maybe I can find it.

If i am not mistaken some of the knowledge i have picked up before and after the 9.5 nightmare years in school, that 3 legged cross goes all the way back to ancient Greece i believe.
Sort of like the Nazi swastika goes back to ancient India if i recall right.
I think this is shooting sparrows with M777 cannons, ill take a plain simple end cap, maybe with something laser engraved into it.

I know as a former machine worker ( that too ) i know that it don’t take much in a CNC lathe to do whatever, but i would rather have it simple and then maybe have the good people behind this project earn a little more for their effort.

EDIT : Had to lean on google here, as my selective brain only store so much of whatever it please.

…except the “knees” bend in the opposite direction

With the swastika the Nazis used the right facing. I believe in Buddhism they use the left facing variety while in Hinduish they use the right facing, though I get myself confused easily on that sort of thing.

2018-2021

Edit: Oops, thought this was the GT thread

I have no first hand information, but i will admit i am praying for summer release.
But then aside for often thinking way outside the box i have also always been a tad naive.
Summer would be nice, but if not i will rely on my other lights and my little truck for our RC / camping / bonfire and BBQ trips to the forest.

Also praying that this summer will be a bit over the norm for Danish summers, the past two years have been BS summers.

After that 3 blade discussion i looked at the pictures of Toms modding and couldnt find any Q8 logo and also no tripodmount. Are they both gone?
Bytheway as Toms backed and polished version is so good looking i want to order it right out of the box.

In the RC game it is often used to strip unwanted coloring of ALU using drain cleaner i believe, and some polishing are needed afterwards.

This HPI of my friend just became too orange, so he stripped some of the parts to get a bit more bling.

Before.

After.

It is interesting how symbols have different meanings in different times and places
It explains those pics that show up of things organized in swastika shape (like those little magnets) on Eastern websites where the west frowns on such thing.

All three prototypes received have a tripod mount. The baked, polished, and enhancement modding was done on the early prototype (#1). The more recent prototypes, #2 and #3.

On prototype #1:

Prototype #1 used on a tripod. Note this is with an SRK clone's battery tube. Prototypes #2 and #3 cannot be LEGO'd like this because of the square threads at the joints. We got a superior thread than any other budget SRK style light out there, but at the loss of LEGO'ing with other SRK clones:

The newer prototype (#2 or #3), showing the tripod mount:

All pictures can be found in these shared Photobucket albums:

Prototypes #2 and 3 have been left alone - no mods, accept for prototype #3 that had the CW XPL's replaced with V6 3D ones to match with the target production, and hopefully in the next round of pre-production units as well.

Such a little thing, but it bugs me… they milled a flat onto the head for the tripod screw but it’s not the length of the head so the full round portion of the head will interfere with the mount on most tripod pads causing the light to tilt and thus a misalignment of the screw hole. If they’d simply cut the thread onto the full round light it’d be fine. No need for the milled flat. With the milled section removing base metal the screw hole is shallower by that margin. Of course, if they are going to provide a stand-off in copper or thick chunky aluminum this is a moot point… (not that a stand-off wouldn’t still work if the hole was on a full round head and no milled flat)

Those 1% users who will be mounting it on a tripod can put a washer in between.
I see no point in chiselling off a quarter of the head for that, and as for me I don’t need that hole at all.

We have designed that flat area around the tripod mount and symmetrical at the switch to:
Prevent accidental switch presses and give space for tripods.

And no, orings are specified as being added in box, diffusers, tripod adapters, standoffs and such are to be bought/made ourselves.

I hear ya, but what he’s saying is it does the opposite of giving space for a tripod. It defines and restricts the space for a tripod instead of giving it space. If it was rounded there it would work perfectly fine, and would fit any tripod, whereas with this design it won’t universally fit all tripods now, and probably won’t fit the majority from what I see. Even in your photo it is sitting crooked from the design.

Agree with Nord. With a round surface you get a straight line of contact on any size of flat surface. With half round and half flat you either need a washer to raise it or it’s crooked.

It depends on the size of the tripod

I don’t see where he suggested “chiselling off a quarter of the head”. He suggested not milling it flat… which would in reality leave more base metal on the head as well as give a nice level base for the Q8 to mount properly to a tri-pod without the need for standoffs, “washers”, or some other unnecessary hardware.
