moon level 3 is default and lowest of ramping
turn on with long press enters the own set moon, so set it to 1 and it could not even light up, 2 will be faint, 7 brighter
funny thing is that if you set your moon higher then 3 you can start in moon with long press from on and when you start ramping it will be a bit dimmer to get to the default moon.
Still can’t figure out how to change the moon level. I can go into ramping 8 seconds and get to where it blinks for the UI four blinks I get. Then it goes to two quick blinks and one, two quick blinks and 2 two quick blinks and three two quick blinks and four then 4 blinks and it’s out back to rampping. When do I change the moon level? I think it’s at the two quick blinks and two but what do I do when I get to that point? I saw Jason WW’s video on changing the or getting into you UI but it wasn’t very clear.
CrashOne:
I’m trying to set moonlight level from the ramping config, but I can’t see any difference. Is there a special moonlight mode or is it just the lowest value of the ramping? If the latter, I don’t see any difference.
It’s the lowest ramping level, but only if you ramp up from OFF. Ramping down to the lowest is always a value of 3. A value of 2 works nice, 1 is almost undetectable - I’ve seen it glow the LEDs slightly. Values of 4-7 will brighten it up.

Ah, I did everything right, but to select moon I just needed to release the button quicker, otherwise I was already ramping up.

It's the 2nd setting, so after the 2 slow blinks, click the # of times you want moon level to be, so click twice for PWM vlaue 2, or 5 clicks for PWM value of 5, etc. Then let the blinks play out -- for the 3rd setting, and the 4th setting, then 4 to 5 or so quick blinks ends it.
its odd, im from the states also, ordered the light 2 weeks before you and i still dont have it :rage:

What did you try changing moonlight level to?
You let it do 2 fast, then 2 slow, then you do your presses. Each press should show a confirmation blink.
Once out of the menu you can only access moonlight from off. Press and hold and release the button as soon as it comes on. That should be your new moonlight mode.
I tried setting it to 2, but the change is very difficult to see. You need to be in a dark room to better see the difference. Unless the moonlight level is super important to you for some reason, I’d just leave it at the default level of 3.

Not sure… I ordered a Q8 and a MF01 2,3 days later and they both take equal amount of time to get here.
MF01 was here first and Q8 showed up about 3,4 days later. I’m in East Coast
Tom E: The Miller:Pinching could work, there is the spare, sigh I thought it was a nice addition so people could choose the feel of the switch but it seems it is needed in some cases.
Is the spare different?
No but if pinching the original ruins it, one has a spare, also one could shorten the little central stud to see if that makes a difference
I thought you wanted the spare switch cover to be a tiny bit longer so people could change the feel of the switch. Did Thorfire decide to make them all the same length?

I’ve tried to set it to 2, 6 and 7. It doesn’t work. I can change it from mode sets but not from ramping. I do like number 2. Go Astros!
Just got mine today….and I really really wish that I had bought a second!
You can try to order another with your code. Maybe it still works
Is it possible to get a code for this? I know I am late on the group buy but I am new and would love one if still available!!!
Got mine a few days ago, been busy, just a few words… Great Job and many Thanks to the team…
Everything looks good,well built……
Big Thanks again….

Is it possible to get a code for the 2nd batch or is it too late?

It would be good if Tom E would give us some input on how he expected NarsilM users to step through the blinkies while using ramping.
Best Regards,
George
Jason is dead-on with this. If you used mode sets, then the blinkies work exactly the same. Priority is given to 1 click ON, 1 click OFF. When you switch to a blinky mode, it “locks in” in ~1.2 seconds as Jason said, but you can always reverse navigate (press&hold), then that allows you to further reverse navigate or forward navigate. But again, forward navigating will time out in 1.2 seconds, resulting in “locking in” that mode.
I know in the beginning it’s a struggle getting used to it, specially if you are not already proficient with mode set operation. For me it’s intuitive because I’ve been using the mode set operation for like 3-4 years now, years before the smooth ramping was added.
The method to fwd and reverse navigate was first made popular by BLFer Werner, and aptly named the “Werner UI”, but I modified it to “lock in” a mode with the 1.2 sec timeout, so you didn’t have to click through all remaining modes to turn the light OFF - this is where priority is given to the “1 click ON, 1 click OFF” rule.
G’Day Tom E,
Thank you Very Much for your comments and feedback. Greatly Appreciated.
Yes, it is indeed a struggle getting used to the timings when trying to select a certain blinky and/or trying to step through the blinkies (in ramping).
And unfortunately, this makes this light not suitable for casual/non-flashlight addicted users who need quick access to a specific blinky (that includes many friends & family members who want this).
NarsilM is VERY good, But I think that the ease of access to specific blinkies, and ease of stepping through blinkies (forwards & backwards) should be addressed to make it even better. Just a suggestion.
Thank you Very Much,
Best Regards,
George
NarsilM v1.2 helps a little with it in allowing press&hold to wrap around from the lowest blinky to the last blinky, same for modes. If you don’t like how the blinky modes work, then you won’t like the standard modes, because they are the same thing. I’ve gotten a lot of complementary feedback on how modes are navigated, so hard to say. Not sure how to address this since it’s a major change. Think TK had some suggestions wayyy back but can’t recall details. I’d say a separate physical button would help the most but that’s not an option for the Q8.
Many Q8 users don’t even want the blinky modes or if they do, some want only one strobe, so not sure what % of users this effects: 80/20, 20/80, 60/40 etc., or if you are in the 1–3.
What about to increase the time for lock in from 1.2sec to 2sec?
hahahaha wanted to do runtime test with the celingbounce app.
My phones battery gave up before the Q8 cells.
Need a do over, and well gonna stick a temp probe between the fins to see temps while doing it.
Cells charging again (when I saw the phone had turned itself off the Q8 was warm, not hot and the cells were at 3.57V)
will report when it is done, could be tomorrow or day after
If you enable the developer options for an Android phone you can switch on display always on, when charging
Can someone direct me to the BLF Q8 flowchart please?

As I know there are no more new codes from the original group buy.
But Madmax has a code. A few bucks more and still a good deal.

Just hoping I couldnt break anything/ruin water resistance/pull the silicone off with my sophisticated pinch/pull lazyman’s “repair”
I’m still having issues changing the UI myself. Can’t quite seem to get it right. SO many blinks and stuff. Need a micro USB built in where you can program by plugging it into your laptop!
