Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Oh I agree, it's great stuff! All I know is I measured the loss at the time from DC Fix, can't recall how much though, but it was definitiely worth it. Typical classic trade-off: power for quality, CW top bin vs. nice neutral 2nd tier bin, etc. Thanks to Boaz for offering up DC Fix to us cheaply - he might still have some left. I never would have tried it without his recommendation, and glad I am using it now.

I like the way this is going. Currently i am #347 please add me for 2 more for a total of 3. Thanks!

I’m in for 1

On the topic of diffusers, I use a Fenix AOD-L on my Supfire M6. It probably fits other SRK lights as well.

:crown: We should enhance the logo for the Q8

The diamond in the SRK logo should have the silhouette of narsil (Tom E’s Avatar) because Q8 is a SRK very much improved with his narsil firmware.

What do you think of that idea guys?
A sword for the king?

Joe

Ehm, sorry Tom E, I am not quit sure if your vote counts, you’re biased.

Email send to Peter Lyon
He made the (not broken  ) sword Narsil for the LOTR movies
Hope he either is OK when we use it or directs me to somebody that can give the OK for it.

Great news
jack-bkk is helping out with translation!
Thank you jack!

And Tom, sorry, not so great news, Peter Lyon answered:
I can’t help you with this, and I cannot give (or refuse) permission as I do not own the copyright on the design of the Narsil sword from LOTR. That would belong to New Line Cinema (though I think that has become part of another film company now), so you would have to contact them about the permission you seek.

You know how movie studios think about using intellectual property.
How much do we want this? It probably means dealing with Hollywood shark lawyers a little down this road, but I am happy see who owns copyright on the design and email them.

Go for it! And while you’re at it, see if they’d be interested in a couple for their own private collection(s). :crown:

It’s a tiny emblem going on a cheap mass produced CHINESE light…surely there won’t be problem?! Since when do China give a crap about copyright infringement?

Count me in, please.

I hope we are not taken this seriously. Frito and Good Gulf won't care... Wait? That's "Bored of the Rings".

While I applaud the idea of seeking permission to use a copy written symbol, I think in this case it’s unnecessary. The size of the sword in any logo that goes on even a large light like an SRK is not going to be discernably a copy of any particular sword. It will be a generic (forgive me if I use the wrong terms) two handed broad sword with balls on the ends of the not so cutty bits. Only the name will identify it as that specific sword.

Using the name Narsil may be a bigger hurdle, though that would probably be fair use, but I ain’t a copyright lawyer.

Nice, everybody seems to like an altered logo.

I don’t think we get into trouble if we use a sketch as inspiration of a drawing. It would be a mix from narsil and the fire ring from the original SRK, plus the text. IMHO it’s unique enough.

I doupt the name rights are taken. You had to claim names for a specific product category. The niche electronic, flaslight, codename for a firmware used in the driver for a LiIon driven flashlight is shurly unclaimed

But hence we are using a picture, we should ask John Howe, he made a lot of great Artwork. And I guess the pic of Tom E’s avatar could be from him.

Narsil sketches are from page 3 on and later

Well had to try, how cool would it have been to get a “yes sure go ahead and use it” from the maker of the iconic LOTR Narsil sword for this?

You could be in for trouble if you seek copyright permission and use any sword-like logo if they deny you (which they certainly will). Far better to just use the logo, calling it only “a sword”, then let whoever wants to complain about it become the one who will have to prove in court that it’s theirs if they discover it at all (which they probably won’t). By asking first you acknowledge that you are aware the design is theirs making infringement far easier to prove and prosecute . Change it slightly (the design preferably sent in miniature size so proof becomes harder) and put it on the light. I know enough about copyright law to fill a few paragraphs with the details involved, but I’ll condense that to this: The worst likely to happen here is that some “C&D” letters get sent, and so long as we comply with them afterward that’s the end of it. No big deal. Ask permission and you could be opening up more liabilities than you can imagine, so just pipe down and do it.

Joechina is actually working on a logo, he is going to email it
And I was hacking away in the logo and made a sword to add to it.

I like the idea of adding a sword very much!

joechina made a cool logo with Tom Es avatar!

I guess I missed something here, but where did this sword-logo business come from? We already had a looong discussion about the logo earlier in this project, including a poll, and there was no sword. Seems like we could be using our time and energy to work on things that haven’t already been discussed and sorta-decided. I do realize this isn’t my project and my opinion doesn’t really matter, but for what its worth I’d much prefer we stick to the earlier designs instead of the sword.
