Looks like an interesting flashlight. What kind of optic does it use? Regular TIR, fresnel TIR or reflector?

Never heard of an SFT-25R
Any comparisons to other emiters, so I know what I’m looking at here? Like maybe, how does it compare to the other SFTs, like SFT-40 maybe?

I find it intuitive as an indicator of the battery getting progressively emptier. Goes well, I think, with the in-button battery level indicator - as in when the red starts blinking it gives mi finer granularity: ‘is it blinking or is it really blinking?’ In the end, there is only one level (reserve) left which, in examples above, lasts over an hour at reasonable level of a few tens of lumens. Enough safety and persuasive, actionable reminders that no battery lasts forever - beyond that, there is darkness…
Just looked at FC11 (unregulated) vs. FC11C: some 1000 lm•h vs. 1500 lm•h on Medium.

Similar story with SC21Pro (unregulated, Anduril) vs. SC21: some 200 lm•h vs. 300 lm•h. There seems to be no competition.
That is true, the Andruil UI doesn’t make up for the lack of efficiency. What I’m trying to say is the ability to precisely dial in the amount light for a situation can usually mean you get the task done with less light, compared with an efficient light without smooth ramping ability.
Say a efficient light with 3 modes, low is too dim, med is okay so you choose med, which gives you something like 250lm for the task, a bit bright but okay. For an Andruil light, you can dial in 185lm which is still bright enough for you to see and it will use less power. In the end they might provide somewhat similar runtime and the brightness difference doesn’t matter for the task.
I’m not saying that Andruil can turn an FET light to a good efficient buck driven light, but the powerful flexible UI can make the light work more efficiently in some situation when compared to a dumb 3 mode UI.
The sad thing is smooth ramping UI and a efficient driver are not exclusive to each other but I don’t see a product which provides both on the market, except some Hank lights, which is niche of the niche. All non-andruil ramping UIs suck. The manufacturers just seem lack the ability to program their UI correctly.

Not everyone enjoys Anduril though, myself included. All okay if it’s set up correctly for Simple UI to have full output and all necessary functions, but an absolute nightmare if not.
Perhaps stick to Hank lights if you enjoy Anduril, not every brand needs that firmware pushed.
I’m a dealer for Sofirn and Wurkkos, I purchased about 20K stock this year and Anduril makes it a pain in the butt to sell, it’s just problems when people access the Advanced UI. Not to mention one look at the UI diagram has them wanting to return it.
Used to be a dealer for Fireflies with Anduril and no one wanted to buy. It’s more an Enthusiast firmware.
Maybe a Simplified Anduril based UI without the Advanced UI, instead an option to choose the amount of steps and a temp adjustment.
Completely agree, Andruil is not for everyone. There is a reason the big name companies wont touch it (ever.)
Yeah, I’ve seen that. I showed The Diagram™ with the gist of “lookit all it can do!”, and got this wide-eyed stare and “you gotta be f’n kidding” response.
It’s incredibly flexible, can do all sorts of shiite, but scares the beJAYzus out of most normies.
There are way way way too many people out there who can’t even doubleclick. You can show it a dozen times, “clkclk”, and when they try it, it’s “click . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . click”. Then they wonder why it turned on and shut off again.
Then ask them to try a 4C or 7H or whatnot, and they’ll drop the light like it’s glowing red-hot.
That’s one incredibly simple thing that all too many “enthusiasts” just can’t seem to grok.
EC50 gen2. Click on/off. Hold for L/M/H. That’s it. No shortcuts, no multiclicks, just… simple. Every normie I showed it to wanted one as a house-light. The only ones that got more attention were my 1-modes.
If there’s a “simple mode”, we need a true “retarded mode” that’s just as simple as the '50. Maybe press’n’hold for 10sec to “upgrade” to existing simple mode. Most people could manage that if they want to.
Oh, and an “escape clause” of 10sec press’n’hold from simple mode to go back to retarded mode if they can’t hack simple mode with all its clicks and holds. Maybe from off, only, so it can’t be triggered from extended ramping.

This is exactly why I am so interested personally in having both Anduril and an efficient buck driver in the same light. When you use the short battery tube and 18350 cells the difference in run time becomes very noticeable. Maximizing both the area under the curve (Essentially your lm•h) and the ability to pick a brightness level that is enough to the task without being way more than you need gets you the the longest runtime in a small size.
Honestly this new light doesn’t even look like a successor to the SC31 pro. It looks like more of a Thrower and doesn’t have Anduril. Its similar in that its a single emitter 18650 cell side button light but that’s about it. I like the slightly smaller size and buck driver, with options for different LED’s and optics it could be a very good platform but currently it doesn’t really excite me.
I think there is only so much functionality one can successfully assign to a single button. When the precise level adjustment matters, maybe this Sofirn’s solution - perhaps with some refinements - could work better for more people.
There is a great book on the topic: Steve Krug’s ‘Don’t make me think’. Most of it is dedicated to deciphering why users so often refuse to like what programmers are certain they should, and then fixing the issue (usually by informing the designers rather than the public).
