How’s the beam shape on the D2iC?
It’s good. Similar to an M21a.
I’m going to try and get some outdoor shots this evening.
32mm XBY driver testing…
With my multimeter in one hand, and Dong in the other, I ran each current setting through my clamp multimeter using a section of 14ga silicone wire and one of the Convoy green 26800 cells.
Results are as follows.
20amp buck
14.36amps
25amp buck
19.52amps
30amp buck
23.52amps
120a FET
31.55amps
No pictures, please…![]()
I went out to take some beamshot pics this eve, but there was so much pollen in the air it was horrible. Pics were garbage. So I took a few snaps off my patio.
D2ic
Vs M21a
The beams are pretty much the same, aside from emitter, battery and driver differences.
Funny, I have an M4C and M4B on order right now, and the D5F I ordered just shipped. My plans for the hosts are SFP55 and NV1010. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for those Daydream custom 110’s to pop up for sale. I’d snag a few for sure.
I built up a DDH D2G host last night.
I really like it. I used an LHP73b 5000k and one of the TA Fet+1+8 22mm drivers I recently built.
I bypassed the tail spring and it’s pulling 28.64 amps with a Tenpower 21700 50XG.
I’m wondering if I should be bypassing the springs on the onboard USBC board. I feel like I should.
ETA: Pics of driver are before cleaning flux off.
Compared next to a Convoy M21a.
ETA 2: I know it’s not very a scientific beamshot, but the cars give a good reference for the spill.
I’m really liking the DDH hosts so far.
My DDH F8B has arrived not long ago and I measured a couple of things:
- It came with a 46120 battery in black sleeve (most likely Lithium-ion). Internal impedance is 1.2 milliohm (measured with my Yaorea 1035+).
- I measured level 1 to be 313 lumens and level 6 to be 11,000 lumens with my TK Lamp flashlight tester). Turbo is 42,000+ lumens (keep in mind that the battery is not fully charged).
- I will test the turbo brightness again once the battery is fully charged.
I like the looks of that driver. What’s the specs? I’m not familiar with it.
It is the Texas Avenger Fet+1+8 22mm driver designed by @Texas_Ace that I built and used Bistro Triple down firmware by @ToyKeeper. If memory serves me, he designed the driver back in 2016/2017.
It uses a single 7135 on the top for super low moon modes, and the other 7135 chips for regulated medium high modes. Then the 3rd channel gives you direct FET drive.
So far I get between 25-40 amps out of them depending on the emitter/battery used.
The PCBs are available on Oshpark and he has handily listed all the build components needed there as well. There is also a mega thread on here about it as well.
I think I’m going to need one of these!
I measured 47,662 lumens on turbo which is not even close to the 80K - 90K spec. ![]()
Edit: TK Lamp can measure up to 35,000 lumen so the measurement is invalid.
do you know anything about your battery? the 46120 batteries i’ve seen offer significantly lower total capacity/MDC/CDR when compared to a “standard” 46950. 48K is still a tonne of light, though!
ETA: did you get the lhp73b or “7016” LEDs?
I bought this from a Taobao seller and I specifically requested for the NBD7016 LEDs. I think my sphere can only measure up to 35,000 lumens so my data is unreliable…
Once you get past 30k Lumens it gets tricky to measure without a large calibrated integrating device (I use a 50 cm sphere). Still, be prepared to be disappointed since Chinese Lumens are not the same as everyone else’s Lumens unless you buy from a reputable Chinese brand. Amutorch, Haikelite, Nightwatch mostly perform at about 30% to 50% of advertised.
If you have a reliable lux meter, this shouldn’t be a problem. Measure the same light on a low output in both the sphere and the lux meter to get the constant of proportionality between lumens and lux (at some fixed distance) for that light. Then measuring lux on max lets you deduce the lumens by just multiplying that constant of proportionality.
I installed a Convoy 32mm 25+ Fet driver in my D2ic last night. It has the ramping firmware. This version does not need to double click and hold for momentary turbo.
You can just 2c or ramp to it. It’s good.
I been wanting to run 21700 cells in it. The short post on the Convoy driver gives me the extra space needed so I’m not over compressing springs.
I have some 26650 to 21700 sleeves on order, but for now I just triple folded a piece of printer paper and rolled it around the cell. It works for now.
Full dong collection so far (more hosts on the way)

D2ic. D2g. D2i. D4i.
Updated my D6E with newest XBY release. It now pumps ~90A through the DayDream 110110 emitter ![]()
Buck ceiling is also increased to 40A.
Wow. That thing is a beast Billy. I think I’m going to need to add one of the bigger DDH hosts to my build list. Is that driver available for purchase yet?
