I keep feeling the temptation of buying one of these because I think it would be a very useful light. There's just something about strapping a very cheaply manufactured light loaded with a powerful 18650 to my head that prevents me from doing it. The "what if" scenarios caused by a venting cell are to gruesome to mention here, even if is Halloween.
Bah…single li-ions almost never vent without a reason. It’s the multi-cell lights you have to worry about. Besides, this one stays clipped inside my pocket and is perfect for EDC. The UF-H2 is for strapping to my head anyway. If I need to see out to 100yds I have my micromag on me as well at all times. If I need more light than that I have to fetch one of the big boys.
Sorry but I strongly disagree. Ive personally had two different 1 x 18650 lights develop dead shorts while in operation. Each time, the host became very hot and I was able to unscrew the tail cap before a potential explosion turned it into a fragmentation bomb. In retrospect, I should have thrown the lights like live hand grenades with the pins pulled. I hope to never read about someone having a flashlight explode, much less one while its strapped to a persons head. If you would like to learn more, CPF has a complete sub forum on the subject. Google will find several articles related to lithium based single cells venting in about every device imaginable that came equipped with them.
+1 for the UF-H2. These are plenty bright enough to light the path in front of me while on AA's.
There actually is negligible diff in 1 and 2 cell lights unless you use severely mismatched cells but of coz that happens with newbies. Mosfets fail and almost
certainly give you a dead short. Use protected cells, and pray that the pcb holds up. Btw i do trst all protected cells for shorts w 2 x 14awg for over 24hrs.
Got mine today. My xtars fit? Yes they sure do. Says UFH3b on the tailcap. When compared to my Mf one this one has a longer tailcap. Tint is whiter that my Mf one too and appears to be brighter. I am happy with this deal.
My Mf one says UFH3 thats all. The clip is silver/ chrome looking. Not as nice as the black clip on the UF H2. I take it off anyway as it's not really usable with the headband. I got mine in a box as well.
Update. The tail cap on my DD ufh3 also developed a loose switch retaining ring. Easy to tighten though. I tried the tailcap on my MF ufh3. Won't fit its bigger (diameter and longer). The DD one has a shorter button as well. Not a biggie.
Finally got it today... I am not very happy :( Buildquality seems very cheap.. While unscrewing one of the two screws of the clip, the thread broke :( So I cant use anymore the clip and it looks very crap :( Well done Ultrafire
I never touch the clip. That said, the built quality of the light is actually pretty high, anodising is very smooth and flawless, body is as solid as ever (no rattle actually).
Mine was quite good in build too. Removing the magnet was easy n just put back the spring without having to stuff anything to fill up the empty space. Doesn’t rattle as well with battery after that. Nice
