That’s a pretty good response. I have been discussing the issue with the same person.
They’ll be back from a national holiday after 7th October. That said, they’ve been replying while on leave.
Hopefully Vapcell can update the hardware so that this issue doesn’t occur (short circuit caused after disconnecting the power while charging a cell at 5A or two cells at 2.5A each).
I don’t think Vapcell has a particularly good reputation for chargers. This is not the first charger of theirs that self destructs, Vapcell s4+ will do it too. Even the s4+ V3 version will self destruct. This implies that they do not fully test their products before releasing them, and aren’t fixing major design flaws from version to version.
I decided to get Brave. With many precautions I started using my other charger three or four days ago. Last night I used Pro mode for the first time and charged a P45B at 5 amps.
This morning I had batteries to charge. I put in a 18350. I decided I wanted to get it back in simple mode. I turned it off by the power strip on off button. I did not unplug it from the power strip. While it was off I switched it back into simple mode. I turned it back on and it self-destructed like the first one.
I Took pictures of the board. I don’t know anything about electronics. However, depending on the picture angle, whatever is above or to the left of “3R3” is Burnt. You can see a hole in the top of it where it most likely shorted out and where the smoke most likely originated.
The switch you see in some of the photos is the Simple/Pro switch.
You can also see the soldering contacts that seem to be attached to the black rectangular piece near “3R3,”,are burnt.
I just got my 2 x su-2 and one S4 Plus replacements. They didn’t give me power cords. I have some extra from S4 plus. The one su-2 that malfunction the worst I tossed the cord. I’m going to send you pictures of the su2 which is the smaller power supply and the S4 power supply. Is it safe to use the S4 power supply for the su2? Thanks
If you look at the photos closely the larger power supplies for the S4 Plus have 12V/5A and SU2 5A has 12V/ 2.5A. Does that extra 2 .5 amps make a difference? It must in some capacity I don’t know enough about Electronics to determine that.
Recieved SU2 two days ago here in Belgium. Have S4+ and very happy with that charger. But this SU2 is not doing well. Checked for the smoke issue, as described above. No smoke > “USB” so = OK (But today I did the same trick but could no longer find the 5000mA current, 2000mA was highest, but still with result> “usb”.
But , but > SU2 is not recognizing Li-ion/Ni-MH/cd switching wrong to empty bay or charging the wrong bay as seen on display, sometimes counting to hundred while no battery is in the charger. So, disappointed and unhappy.
For me simple mode and auto is enough, but not working here. Adapter has been checked on empty 12,3V so OK. When taking away battery from the bay, the display keeps the result also even inserting another battery. Is made on 5/27, like in photo here above. (second Batch?). How to prove this is bad product? Only mail with no uploading possibilities. When I start from zero, it seems to work right. But when I exchange a battery, the chaos starts.
No, it does not. The first I did when the charger arrived was this “smoketest” as I previous mentioned. This first time I could see 5000 mA appearing on the screen and it started charging the 21700 cell. I was so glad not to see smoke, so thought all is well seeing USb. After that I could not go higher than this 2000mA doing the same again. As said before, I can start well, but not take out a battery and then hoping to start from “zero” with the new inserted battery. Does not recognize anything anymore and after pressing display, it becomes chaos.
Three hours later.
Again I tried to get this 5000mA current, but funny enough the unit went 1000mA higer to 3000mA. But with this there was another thing> I could not choose the type of battery at all. Display freezes after you take out a battery.
No, the charger had a production stamp of 27 of may 2024. Like the photo above in the discussion of second batch.
Vapcell has answered to send a new one after showing them the details of the problem.
When was your order placed? It’s nice that they seem to be able to fix the issues and send replacement units without the defective units returned. Please update us about your replacement unit.
