For the longest time I hated zoomy lights, but the 1504 changed all that. When it is de-focused it has a very wide flood beam… very versatile and useful.

I wonder if one was built like yours but with regular XPL (not HI) would it have more light/brightness in full flood mode, but still have some good throw?
Hard to say without actually building one and comparing. Lots of zoom-light comparisons on BLF, and afiak none of them really focus on the flood beam performance.
FWIW… I found this thread very interesting from Argo, direct comparing the 1504, Z1 and 158 using de-dome emitters.
Hello, I’m looking for a zoomie. I want it to:
fit in a jacket pocket
have good throw
have good output when zoomed out
have good quality
be at most moderately expensive
tint doesn’t matter
I want it to work good both at short and long ranges.
I see that UF-1504 fits the needs. I don’t see anything that would beat it, but I’d love too be shown such light. Bonus points for e-switch, but this time performance matters more than convenience.
Now, let’s assume that I go with 1504.
