Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

That is the best deal for a kit that I have seen

Cheers David

So we know now the indicator LEDs are wired in parallel - in case you didn’t bridge the pads of the removed LED.

Nice beamshot Etex!

Hank, funny this is your first soda can light.
Thanks for the belt thing ordered!

On the screw issue, my first thought would be to make sure the screws are snug, then mark the inside edge of the screws, remove one at a time and file down only the inside edge, preferably with a round file matching the curve at that point. If they don’t touch to start with, just an extra mm would give complete peace of mind.

5 min fix, maybe unnecessary, but I would do it just to put my mind at ease.

BTW, since the cells are all in parallel, what are the implications/guidelines running it with 1, 2, or 3 cells, in the case of a matched set of 4 being unavailable for whatever reason, maybe they are being charged separately and not all done yet, or one or two have been damaged, or all are being charged but you have a couple of others available for now…

1 cell will not get you max brightness, in case of protected panasonics the Q8 shuts off when entering turbo.
with 2 cells turbo is possible, I did not see a difference between using 2 or 4 GA cells
3 of course is easier on the cells then 2

And my fist Q8, ordered before PMs were send so the true first order, the only order that we are certain of it was nr 1 of 500 because payment cleared before the PMs were send.
I checked and it is the first time I see movement:
RYxxxxxxxxxSG
In Transit Singapore(Singapore Post)
France(La Poste)
Latest Event — 2017-09-19 02:52 Despatched to overseas (Country code: FR)

So there you go, nr 1 order, nr 1 payment cleared, one of the first getting a shipping notice, now really traveling, while others have theirs already, there is no clear order in the shipments, but things do move

Corrected previous post

The screws are NOT protruding above the brass ring right?
so where they are placed does not matter, they cannot tough the cells anyway

Correct!!!

Unless someone’s screws are not snugged down all the way.

ok, they are more likely to be very tight then not screwed in far enough

Easy enough to check with your fingertip before loading batteries

You can feel the difference!!!

To put into perspective, there are solder connections on pcb boards MUCH closer together than this gap.

Yes, so changing the screws, please talk about it in the modding thread
And please report here IF they do protrude, that would be not good at all and something we need to know.

Ahh, maybe? Pics here: photobucket Manker U11

SD26 here: photobucket Lumintop SD26. Simpler mod for sure...

The U11 mod is pretty nasty, or involved

Notice the pink in the UltraFire? Also got a Yezl Y3, Skilhunt H15 in pink, think I did an SRK too.

Did someone get a shipping notice for a second batch Q8 - preorder number over 500?

I read a few pages ago the second batch was due a few days ago…
I wish i managed to forget about this light and be happy when it shows up but i just can’t! :person_facepalming:

Problem solved. It was user error, not hardware. Procedure is described in posts below.

Dear The Miller —

Here is another case of failed green LEDs in the button. (Either that, or I’ve misconfigured the light — still looking into that). Light arrived in Atlanta yesterday. Tracking worked all the way from origin, but the label on the package looked as though the shipment had originated in California. No Chinese characters or reference to China locations whatsoever.

Button was working when the light arrived. If it turns out that it has failed, I’ll either replace the LEDs or the whole board.

Thoroughly enjoying the light, though. Thanks to all who made it happen.

Thank you TomE!
Very nice work! I will be losing the USB charging this way? I think I will copy it

Yes, definitely - will be lost. Dunno enough about electronics to try to get charging circuitry working with most mods. Some lights have the USB charging totally separate, so can be salvaged. Think with this U11 light, it's all about space - it's a squeaker.

Probably should go over to the Q8 modding thread with these posts

I’m around order 800, and no shipping notice yet. I sure could use them this weekend as handwarmers. It’s supposed to get down to 13°F.

Completely understandable patmurris. … It has been a long wait for an anticipated light.
Just keep checking on that shipping status & soon you will have the pleasant surprise that your Q8 will be headed your way. Just like This One . Sure it was a different batch… but he got a pleasant reward when he checked that shipping.
It will be there before long……
