So I have been trying to fit this MT-G2 into a flashlight and was having trouble with both reflectors and drivers.
Turns out the Convoy M1’s reflector works perfectly with an MT-G2. Contact board for driver and two Efest IMR’s.
I think its pulling 6 amps with the fully charged batteries. The MT-G2 inn an X8 clone with a 3 amp driver I was getting 180 lux ceiling bounce.
With this M1 direct drive it gets 300 at start. My modded 9 XML Trustfire does 450.
Now, I want to swap the contact board for a 105c, all I need is to add a zeiner diode right? I tried searching for the thread that shows what is needed but can’t find it. Anyone care to point it out to me?
You need to put an 200 ohm resistor in place of the reverse polarity diode at the base of the red positive to led wire on the driver, on the other side, you need to put a 4.3V Zener on top of the capacitor next to the 7135 chip, with markation line away from negative ring.
resistor by the red wire
Zener on the capacitor, I have found it lays beside it more cleanly than it stacks on top of it
Mouser has these for cheap. I bought ten of each for like $6…
And of course you can then stack your chips to the desired power level up to what your cells can deliver in direct drive.
I’ve got 4 380 binned chips added and am seeing 4.41A at the tail in my K3 head driven by 2 Panasonic NCR18650PD cells in an L2P body. Even running 2 Efest IMR18350 cells I still get 4.40A.
The output when using an XM-L vs the MT-G2 emitter. And yes, for some reason the driver output differently to the 3V emitter as compared to the 6V one.
You do understand, don’t you, that you won’t be able to use this to drive it harder than your cells would run it direct drive? The chips won’t bump power over what your cells are capable of, they will limit it if you don’t want to run a full 6A output, but they won’t exceed that.
At 4.40A this bad boy makes some serious heat! Be aware of that! I’m talking over 130º on the head in less than 5 minutes.
I don’t mess with the stars as I like the default settings. Don’t know if the MT-G2 will run at that low a power level though, seems like the charts have it starting up around 350 lumens at 500mA. I’m seeing less lumens than that but honestly don’t know how low it will go.
Haha yeah. It’s pretty sick. Ordered some diodes and resistors from mouser, hopefully they get here quick. In the meantime I will get a Qlite driver set up for 5-6 amps.
I ran the K3 on hi for 6 straight minutes, the cells still allowed 4.32A and were down to 3.65V each. Started at 4.40A with a fresh charge on batteries just received today.
