Now, this is not a cry for help so don’t panic. It’s more somewhere for our modders to post links to builds to inspire our newer members, something to kickstart the diy man in everybody. So I’ll add a few links off the top of my head and hope others do the same.
At the same time, feel free to add your own builds here too or ask questions on posted builds. I was just thinking one mod post go to May be a helpful link, one thing, they must be easy diy mods, not full on lathe/miller jobs. I guess I need all of old lumens builds linking in here….
http://hacknmod.com/hack/how-to-1000-lumen-maglite-mod/
I’ve added this just to show what’s possible, jayrobs build is all over the net and this is as good a summary as any.
Gentlemen,
Do you have an old mini-mag laying around unloved? Have an extra P-60 drop-in unused? Got 15 minutes to spare and a penchant for DIY? This is the mod for you. This idea came about while I was building another mini-match and looking at all the various torch parts stored on my desk. In essence, it converts a standard mini-mag into a host of sorts, but only for the brass base of a P60 drop-in. Best of all, it's cheap, easy, and DOES NOT require a lathe or mill.

A short while back, due to a mix up at Tmart's US warehouse, I received a TrustFire TR-801 instead of an UltraFire UF-F10 (TK35 clone). Due to the inconvenience, as well as due to their fantastic customer service, they refunded my money and let me keep the TR-801. What's a guy to do with a light that's a few years old and running a Q5 LED? Why, turn that bowl of lemons into lemonade, of course!
The TR-801 is anodized in a very dark green instead of the usual black, grey or gold colors most li…

My first mod was the DX single XM-L drop-in into a 2D Maglite with (2) 18650's (sorry I never posted a build).

Gentlemen,
Below is a quick tutorial on how I make my own deep carry custom pocket clips. For this example, I'm going to be using a L3 Illumination L10 graciously supplied to me by Jason at sbflashlights.com . This method will work on most small lights that have extra metal near the tailcap to allow mounting the wire. Please note that the photos below will show the poor L10 tail pretty beat up. This was not done during this mod, but was a side effect of experimenting with other clip designs…

Folks,
This is a short review of three OEM hosts I recently purchased from Ric at fancyflashlights.com (retail site of CNqualitygoods.com). Warning...pictures taken were with my phone while at my workbench and are not the best...
Short summery: Each of them impressed the heck out of me and was far and away better quality than most budget lights I've dealt with before. Since these are only hosts, I'm strictly speaking of machining, finish, and design. Shipping wa…

Hello,
I have been conversing with (cpf) techjunkie about the ever popular method of using multiple 7135 circuit boards as Master/Slaves in order to use multiple LEDs without having to go the series routine and have to use high voltage.
The following is a copy of the PMs between me and techjunkie. It's rather long and I hope it's clear enough as there is a lot of "quoting" in it, so read through and see if it helps. I did highlight all his replies in red.

I am using a 2D Black Maglite to make a 3up XM-L T6 with a TIR optic. Remember I asked what the 50mm optic I had, was for? Well it isn't XM-L, but it's going to be anyhow.[Tongue Out]

I'm using a 2D Incan Mag and I am going to use the 3up star with copper backing it up. I don't have any solid copper rod, so it's 20ga sheet sandwiched into a 3.something mm plate. I still have to clean up the plate later on. This is "WIP", LOL.

No worries, it serves two purposes, its easier to just link to this and not have to search to give an answer, and its easy reference for modders who can’t seem to fund a link. Just needs filling with any useful info hint hint. If you find a good post, throw it in here, someone else will benefit too.

Gords1001,
Great idea to keep a lot of the good mod builds linked in one easy to find spot, although I'd call this post more of a reference than a guide.
Speaking of guides, that's something I've been meaning to piece together now for over a year... I should start on that tonight.

Smallsun zy-t08 guide/info thread.
This one came in yesterday. It’s not a bad light at all. The only negatives I see - the spongy switch, the fairly sharp machining edges just below the switch, and the ringy beam or artifacts around the hotspot. But these are all minor flaws. All in all its well worth the money. The beam is almost identical in brightness to the Small Sun ZY-T13. But it has pretty nice anodizing and machining all in all. It tailstands, and has a nice metal screw in bezel at the front of head. And it has a nice dee…

Just thought I'd share my latest pickup... I wanted a compact 18650-XML light I could cigar hold easily on my night-time jogs around the neighborhood. For this application the weight had to be well balanced between an XML throw-head and the tailcap. The body tube needs to be smooth without knurl, yet firm-grip-able between my knuckles. I wanted a good tight beam XML thrower (or at least one that leans more towards that). I need to be able to spot dogs and other potential threats well in adv…

I can sort that match, as I say, if we can stick all the usefull info links in here and get it stickied, we have a simple post for everything. Just a link and a brief description of the info is surely helpful, if it gets stickied, I’ll remove all my chat and would ask others to do the same, keep it a pure info thread.

My thought was, once the infos in here, I can gather it into specific posts - general skills, popular light specific info, mag mods etc, once that bits sorted, I’d askeach person to delete their post/chat so we end up with a reference sticky where we can click in, link a #post and hopefully guide people to the right spot. So any links you have, stuck em in here with a brief description, in a couple of days I can edit my posts and we end up with one topic with links to a series of guides, so please, try to be specific with descriptions of links, and try to keep the mods to stuff that doesn’t need a machine shop - if the guy needs that, they probably pretty much know what their up to…

That was the thread I were looking for. After those XPE2 mods Match have shown I plan to order some from Cutter or maybe just stick with XPG2 mods till Chinese shops bring in XPE2s. Unfortunately I don’t have much used lights to break into, so this thread will be useful to follow successful mod hosts.
I need a twist head mod change tactical light with a good circuit. But quality lights usually start from $40 like Limintop TD12. so I’ll keep my eye on here for cheaper moddable lights.

Would the Anatomy of a 7135 driver fit? I answer quite a few posts referencing the threads collected. Some are mentioned above. I was hoping it would get stickied on the DIY page to make it easier to find but this is just as good, maybe better. I would add the suggestion that individuals bookmark your thread for rapid access. A sticky makes it easier for newbies to locate, “my subscriptions” I use to keep track of interesting threads, but bookmarks is where I keep items for quick access.

That would certainly be a usefull link. I’ll spend a bit of time later editing this into sections, then delete whatever is no longer needed. Once I’m happy with that, I’ll probably ask people to delete their bits so we’re not duplicating links.
I was thinking something like :-
Driver links:-
Mag mods:-
Common light threads:-
P60 hosts and drop ins:-
And so on. Please offer up any other suggestions/ links then I can get started on it tonight or tomorrow.

I just got a UniqueFire UF-V3 and while it is an awesome little performer, it is way under driven (1.74A on high). Obviously I want to replace the driver but the pill in this light only takes 20mm drivers. This poses a problem as there are no 20mm drivers I know of that meet my needs. I first thought I could just place a 17mm driver inside behind the 20mm driver but the space inside the pill is only 4.5mm deep. Besides, being an all aluminum pill, soldering a good, dependable ground to the drive…
